Your take on this?

Ok..let's see.

I had a first interview with a SD at the Nassau Boces Fair.

They called me for another interview back in February (about 1 week later) and I thought it went really well. They said they are probably holding second interviews around Easter time and I wouldn't hear from them regarding the position till then.

So today I get a phone call from the dept chair asking if I wanted to come in and sub at the end of the month when the teachers have to grade the math assessment. I can't because I have 3 students I home teach and I wouldn't make it back in time.

So 1) Do you think its a good sign they called me?

2) Would it ruin my chances since I can't sub?

Re: Your take on this?

I would def. take this as a good sign that they called. As far as going in for those days, I would think that if there were any way for you to figure it out that you could go it, it would look really good if you went in.

See I know it would look really go to go there and sub. But the district is on the Queens-Nassau border (so its a little hike) and I have a hard enough time juggling my students around their schedules as it is.

This stinks. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

In this market I would definitely sub. I know you have your home instruction children to think of but can you work with them after school hours and sub for those couple of days. IMO this is a test to see how willing you are to work and hustle.

Good luck

Its not so easy to work around everyone's schedule. Plus this school doesn't let out till 3pm and its on the queens/nassau border so with traffic I won't be home till closer to 4:30. And I don't have a babysitter then. I'm going to try and call the dept head back on Monday to see if it is still available though. Maybe the agency will send in a replacement temporarily.

I agree with this! They might be testing you to see how willing you are to work for them. Take this chance! By not taking the opportunity, it may ruin your chances of getting in.

Re: Your take on this?

Definitely try to work something out! It may mean a little craziness for you for a few days, but it could be the difference between getting the job and not getting it. Your first year teaching, you are probably going to asked to do a lot of things at different times - chaperone dances, sports, give extra help before/after school. Flexibility is key.
