Re: YUCK!! Rug!

Ugh! We had 3 nasty rugs - worse than that - pukey green color - in our BRs when we bought the house. Needless to say before we moved in we had those horrid things ripped out and replaces.

Re: YUCK!! Rug!

I guess if they dont have hardwood flrs underneath, you have to leave them - or replace them. I would at least clean them to sell the house...ewww

That's the way our home started.

We still have the "Pepto-Pink" carpeting in the master bedroom b/c we haven't remodeled that room yet. Chat Icon

Re: YUCK!! Rug!

The seller gave us all new carpeting in our house - we ripped out the entire first floor though and replaced it with laminate flooring

I would think a seller would either rip them out evn if the hardwood floor wasn't refinished or go out and buy the cheapest carpet they could get. Both options would make the house seem a lot cleaner and it would probably sell faster for more money.

As a seller, a little bit of effort can pay off.

Scott, I think your seller did the right thing with the carpet and the banister.

Sometimes it's unnecessary. A lot of sellers factor that into the sale price.

We purchased our home "As Is" (needed new septic and roof immediately) and made an offer in the driveway the first day it was on the market. The aesthetics were the least of our worries, especially since we knew we'd be gutting the house to our liking anyway (chances are that would have held true for any home unless we had it custom built.)

It wouldn't bother me. Even if they had put in NEW carpets to sell, I would have ripped them out and bought new ones. It would totally skeeve me to have my kids rolling around on a floor that was used by someone else.

That's a palace compared to what ours was like. I would never use another person's rugs anyway. They'd be the first things to come out (and they were).

Oh, I agree with you... I bought a house that needed over 100K worth of work to it because it was all original 1971 and was disgusting. Well, it sat on the market for 4 months last year and I was able to get it for $190K less than the appraisalChat Icon Had the seller just made some fairly expensive upgrades she could have gotten tens of thousands of dollars more and would have saved a lot more money because for three of those months she owned two properties.

I was just trying to argue from a seller's perspective as I've sold two houses. Paint and new cheap carpet sellls a house a lot faster. I'm amazed at how lazy some sellers are... of course, that just benefits the buyers.

Well for us, the sellers were elderly and just wanted to get the home and it's expenses off their hands so they could move to assisted living.

And I don't think new carpeting would have made a difference for us or any of the other potential buyers. A new kitchen or bath...yes, but not new cheap carpeting that is someone else's taste.

I don't think it's necessarily laziness on the seller's part. Some just do the math and find that the expense of having new carpeting installed not worth what they'll get in return. Fresh paint and new carpeting isn't always a guarantee you'll see more money.

Re: YUCK!! Rug!

Ugly! But it reminds me of the wall to wall carpet in our house when we bought. We ended up ripping it all up and refinishing the hardwood floors and its gorgeous now!
