Yuck they found bed bugs in my office building

I am HORRIFIED of bugs and we just found out they found bed bugs on the 2nd floor of my office building!! I'm on the 4th floor. Am I crazy to be afraid that the little suckers can make their way up here The bulding manager is calling the exterminator thankfully.
Does anyone know how quickly those little guys spread? This is making me very nervous

They can and will spread. We have been dealing with this ( in my office building ) for years and millions of dollars later, we still have them -- it is a nightmare.

They can spread quickly - people can carry them on their clothing and they can drop anywhere

I think Acerone started a thread on thsi last week. I am dealing with bedbug madness with many of my clients right now who live in apartment complexes on LI. I am scared to death of bringing them home myself. It's an epidemic. And has nothing to do with cleanliness. Often it can be treated multiple times, but if it's in the building, good luck getting rid of it.

our office has them too. I'm on the second floor and we heard it's in the basement. It's been treated but i'm sure it can spread any time.

I actually made home visits today and yesterday to a patient who's son had them in his room. My clothes immediately went into the laundry and I made sure not to sit anywhere. The nurses and social workers have to go in too.

Unfortunately it's a growing epidemic in not only LI but also in NYC in general.

Just make sure that you take precautions that you don't infect your house (I know it sounds gross but I have to be realistic) as well as your office building.

It's not just putting your clothes in the laundry once you come home but putting them into a plastic bag and washing them IMMEDIATELY in hot water. And dry them on HIGH heat in the dryer.

I know also that if you get bit it can cause an allergic reaction as well. One of the parents that their children come to the center that I work at ended up in the hospital because of bed bug bites. It may look like a common mosquito bite but it may not be a mosquito so just be careful!

I'm sure if you do a google search they'll give you preventative tips and such on bed bugs and what to look for.

We almost moved to a place that had issues with them, thank goodness one of the tenants that was there already warned us before we signed anything! That would have really killed me as I also hate bugs of any kind.
