Zero appetite plus EXCESSIVE thirst?
My appetite's been strange this whole pregnancy, but yesterday I had no desire to eat whatsoever. I only ate, because I knew I needed to. This morning, I woke up extremely thirsty and no matter how much I drink, I stay thirsty. Within 4 hours, I drank 6 16.9 oz bottles of water and a 20 oz Gatorade and still wanted more. After a brief nap, I woke up feeling like I hadn't drank anything all day and immediately downed two more bottles of water. I halfway through my third and the desire to drink just will NOT go away. No appetite again today, plus I feel really weak and exhausted. What could be wrong?

Re: Zero appetite plus EXCESSIVE thirst?
I think that excessive thirst is a symptom of gestational diabetes. Definitely mention it to your doctor.

Re: Zero appetite plus EXCESSIVE thirst?
Thanks. I just called the office and the receptionist said it was "completely normal" in a tone that made it sound like I was a nutso. Oh well if 10 bottles of water and 2 bottles of Gatorade halfway through the day is "normal", I guess I'll just have to accept that.
ETA: Looks like I'll have to make a trip to the store for more drinks. It's going to be a LONG couple of weeks until my next appointment.

When will you go for your one hour glucose test?

It's not until like 24 weeks, right? So not for at least 6 more weeks.

Even though the receptionist said it was normal I would ask to speak to a nurse or the doctor. In my own experiences, sometimes those receptionists think they know/understand things that they don't. I would speak to someone with medical training.

When's your next MD visit?
I do not have gestational diabetes, and I have had similar symptoms...I've always said that I'm never hungry, I only eat because I get tired if I don't. And lately I've been extremely thirsty.
I'd insist on an MD appointment sooner than later if this is really bothering you.
Good luck

I agree. I was once told it was ok to take Theraful while pregnant. She even reiterated "You can take ANYTHING that is over the counter." I called back & said "you do realize the level of acetaminphen in Theraflu, right?" She put me on hold to confirm with the nurse & was told "No, definitely not."
While I know that excessive thirst is a sign of diabetes, I was extremely thirsty during both pregancies.

Thank you. She did tell me to call back tomorrow if it wasn't getting any better, which I'm definitely going to do.

It's on the 30th, so I really only have to wait a couple of weeks. I CAN hold out, but I'd really like to speak with my doctor sooner than that.

Thanks. The main reason I'm concerned about the thirst issue is that it came out of nowhere and hasn't subsided at all today. If I had been thirsty at other times or if drinking water actually helped, I would've thought nothing of it.

Re: Zero appetite plus EXCESSIVE thirst?
Do you know anyone who has a glucose test kit? Someone who had GD with a prior pregnancy and still has thier kit? It's all sterile -- you use a new needle that comes all enclosed in plastic and a new test strip every time you test. I used to test my family all the time and it's totally okay. Maybe if you know someone who has a test they can do a quick prick for you and figure out your number. Hey, if you live local to me I'll meet up with you to test you, if it gives you peace of mind!
