I am considering taking Zoloft for PPA and possibly PPD. I have been in therapy since August. Things got better but then rough again. I am still nursing but weaning. For those that took Zoloft- did it help with anxiety? Did it help you sleep better? And how was getting off of it- I am hoping to be on it for no more than a year. How were the withdrawals?

medication such as this work different for each person. Getting off must be done slowly to avoid neg effects.

Like hmm said these medications work differently for everyone. For some they work wonderful for others not at all and they come with many side effects. Then again some are not too bothersome for some people. Also you cannot stop these without being weaned off of them slowly. Withdrawals can be horrendous. If you need it take it if you think you can get by with just therapy they do that. Good Luck to you.

I was on this for a few years after the birth of my son. I felt good at first, but after a while I felt kind of emotionless and numb. I would just sit around unmotivated to do anything. Weaning myself off was a total nightmare also. I had to resort to opening the capsule and removing a few tiny beads every few days. But even though I did it that slowly, I had a million withdrawal side effects (brain zaps, all over pain, emotions all over). I would not go back on willingly, but at the time I felt so overwhelmed and a hysterical mess that I would have done anything.

Re: zoloft
I wasn’t on Zoloft, but rather Effexor. It was good, then a lot of things started to go wrong. I was in the hospital and getting yourself off the medication is a total nightmare. But I understand what a PP said about being emotionless.
Everyone reacts differently to different medication. I did read one interesting thing and that was how the medication works in families. So for example, perhaps your mom took Zoloft and it was fine. This may work for you.
I actually do not believe in AD and AA stuff because of my bad experience. But that is my experience. I took the same medication 15 years ago (no problems then), and you just don’t know how the body will react.
That being said, Zoloft is one of the easier medications. SSRIs are better than SSNRIs. Ask your doctor about half life as well. That’s important when you want to come off of them.
