my son has been exposed
yesterday, DS informed me that his roommate tested positive.
we spent some time informing those he's come in contact with. today, we'll spend some time looking into the testing protocol in CA.
so scary and so confusing.

my son has been exposed
Sorry, it is a scary feeling that I know well. He will be fine, but will need to really quarantine. Have you been near him in the past few days?

Re: my son has been exposed
Yikes, that's rough. A roommate is like prolonged contact, not just a quick interaction with someone that was positive. I hope he doesn't have it. Can he just go to an urgent care to get tested? It sucks to have to wait till Friday.

my son has been exposed
I would hold off on the test. As scary as this is, he will not test positive unless he’s either: an asymptomatic carrier or becomes symptomatic. When did the roommate test positive? I would give it the 2 week quarantine period for him to quarantine and then get a test or get a test earlier if he becomes symptomatic. Testing too soon will result in a negative. I’m so sorry you guys are going through this. It’s going to be ok. The good thing is your DS is young and younger people tend to do better or become the asymptomatic carriers. Hang in there

Re: my son has been exposed
he is currently self-isolating.
the positive person got a positive test result on thursday (07/02), but didn't tell my son until yesterday. it was prolonged exposure because they were roommates. the roommate has since moved out.
does the two week countdown start today? since today is the first day that the young man is out of the house?

To be safe, I'd do 2 weeks from today. He needs to disinfect the shitt out of their place too. Ugh, so sorry. Hopefully he'll be one of the lucky one's who doesn't get it from someone they live with. I've heard that before.

My brother had it & was really sick...there are 4 other people that live in the same house & no one else got it. I don’t think they tested for antibodies yet, but none of them showed any symptoms.

That's very hopeful to hear. Let's hope that's the case here too!

My brother too had it, but his wife and 3 kids didn't get it. He was sick for about 3 weeks but nobody else had any symptoms at all.

Re: my son has been exposed
My husband had it end of jan, 1st week of February. In the hospital,Bad for 4 days...5th day he was better. We DID NOT quarantine, we DID NOT disinfect..we did not stop acting like husband/wife, slept in the same bed, etc. This was all before we even heard of Covid in March. The kids & I never got sick, he tested positive for antibodies, we did not test positive. I'm not telling you its not a big deal, just want you to have a little peace of mind that its not an automatic death sentence for most ppl. Today we know better, take the necessary precautions & I pray he gets spared.

Have him get the test, it will give you Both a piece of mind. My daughter was exposed back in March and she tested negative.

Re: my son has been exposed
Get tested just for the peace of mind. But are tests not available in Cali like they are here? Every urgent care and I know CVS has them and you don't need any reason to get tested.

i was surprised at how complicated the process to get a test appointment was.
he's scheduled for Friday morning.
sadly/luckily, i haven't spent much time with him recently. and when i have, he's been a distance away and wearing a mask (since we work together and he says it's easier for him to keep the mask on when he pokes his head in the office to say good morning to me).
