Those that get hair straightened
What treatment do you do?
I have done Japanese straightening (thermal reconditioning) for the past decade. Since Covid, i haven't had it redone.
My friend is overly concerned and doesn't think it's safe. She thinks it will give me cancer and has formaldehyde. I have looked into it and initially it seems like they thought it did, but now reports show it doesn't. So i don't know.
To be honest, i'm dying this summer without my hair straightening. It's a mess. frizzy. Curling mess that i can't do anything about.
So just curious if anyone has some insight. If anyone used to do it and stopped. Or if people do other treatments. TIA

Re: Those that get hair straightened
I don't do this but aren't there straightening/smoothing treatments that are less harsh than Japanese? With no formaldehyde?
What about a Keratin treatment?

Re: Those that get hair straightened
I used to get my hair relaxed religiously a few years ago. But that was old school and terrible for your hair.
Now I do Keratin. I love it. There is also a Botox treatment that helps for straightening hair. My stylists was talking about it last time I was there.

I thought I read that the Keratin ones do have formaldehyde, no?

Look into Magic Sleek It’s much safer and formaldehyde free The results are awesome on my frizzy curly hair and you can use any shampoo/conditioner to maintain it as well as go in the ocean and chlorine pools It’s pricey but worth it Lasts longer too :)

Re: Those that get hair straightened
I've had Keratin and it did NOTHING for my hair. This summer I was planning on getting Magic Sleek, but with COVID, I've decided to hold off. I know a lot of people who get it and their hair stays straight in any weather.

I’ve had magic sleek three Times now (do it every six months) and I love it. My hair stays straight in any weather and is very easy to care for. It’s not stick straight flat against my head like how Japanese looks. It is expensive (350) but I don’t care bc I love it. However my lady said I must use the magic sleek shampoo and conditioner exclusively to maintain it optimally and i do. Can buy it pretty reasonably on house of beauty website.

Cezanne has even less chemicals than Magic Sleek and does not contain formaldehyde whatsoever.
I had this done last month.
It wont make your hair PIN straight; if that is what you are looking for; but it will help with the frizz and make drying straight a lot easier.

Re: Those that get hair straightened
I used to do Keratin every summer. It worked great for a couple months. This year did nothing since I don't want to go to a hair salon and I keep my hair in a pony tail
