Heart palpitations anyone?

For the past 2-3 months, on occasion, I get what feels like palpitations or a racing heart rate when I lay down to go to bed. But when I check my heart rate, it's completely normal. I just went through a whole cardiac work up and it was all normal. Both the cardiologist and my PCP said I'm fine. I feel the racing heart and then like a dip in my stomach - like when you drop on a roller coaster. Is it anxiety? I'm not really an anxious person but i do have a lot of stress. What else could it be?

OMG I feel the same thing lately!
I wouldn't even say it's a racing heart per say, but more that dip feeling.
And it happens as I am falling asleep but never at any other point in the day.

I will say, my hormones definitely affect my heart palpitations/anxiety. A few days before my period I will wake with a racing heart/feeling of anxiety in my chest for no reason at all
I have to take CBD gummies to start my day and function and it goes away. And it's fine as soon as I get my period.

I have definitely been told it can be related to PMS especially as you get older.

Do you notice this happens in relation to your cycle at all?

That's exactly me! Right as I'm about to fall asleep. I'm in that realm of not awake but not fully asleep and then I feel the heart race and the dip. And I do have my period right now although it's towards the end. BUT usually I have a lot of anxiety and irritability a few days leading up and this time it came early and I was fine. I wonder if my hormones are playing catch up?

I'm glad I'm not alone. You just made me feel better. Thank you.

Have your thyroid checked, this is a common symptom of both hyper and hypothyroid.

I had this and it was always dismissed and I was told it was anxiety but in reality, I had an arrhythmia

Yes, I get this too and often it's as I'm falling asleep. I notice it most when I'm laying on my left side so I'll roll onto my back so I don't feel it so much. It used to happen a lot when I was pregnant. My OB said it is sometimes normal in pregnancy and offered to send me to a cardiologist but I declined figuring it was normal.

I don't go for annual check-ups but the last time I did a few years ago my doctor was listening to my heart and stopped and said "Did you feel that? Your heart just skipped a beat". I never followed up with it but maybe I should.

Yes this happens to me often. It feels just like you said, like your heart skips a beat and then races to catch up. It can be scary! For me, my cardiologist said it is palpitations related to my mitral valve prolapse. He said mine are not dangerous and I’ve even worn a heart monitor at home to make sure.

Lying down, particularly with my head slightly elevated like on a pillow, is a big trigger. It also happens more frequently when I am hormonal (like PMSing, and while pregnant it was really bad), when I am stressed out or very tired. My mother who is a nurse said to cough if it keeps happening and that somehow makes it stop. It almost always works for me.

Hopefully you are fine since your doctors just checked you. Did you mention the palpitations to them?

When I had my first baby, I had developed PVC's, which is extra heart beats. I followed up with a cardiologist and an electrocardiologist and they ended up just going away. For the past 5 years probably, my EKG has been normal.

The palpitations are what prompted me to go to the cardiologist. I just completed an entire work up with various studies and they all came out normal. Of course I did not experience the palpitations at any time during the work up. Chat Icon I also had my thyroid checked and all was fine. I"m going to have to note when I get it and see if there is any correlation.

Sounds like it could be anxiety which can cause all kinds of crazy physical symptoms.

I find it too when I'm unwinding to go to sleep. Oddly enough, I find when I put my phone away, they go away. Almost like the Wi-Fi is triggering it, lol.

Same thing happen to me and my doctor said it's from anemia. Sure enough after a blood test the results came back low iron levels. It stopped once I started taking an iron vitamin.
