Definitely not a foregone conclusion, but I've seen a few different studies that are showing various long-term affects on the brain with this virus.

Definitely not a foregone conclusion, but I've seen a few different studies that are showing various long-term affects on the brain with this virus.
This is exactly what scares me, the long term effects on the body after you "recover". We are already starting to see the damage it is doing to organs from people who have recovered. This is why I'm careful. If I get it, I may survive, though I'm high risk but relatively young and slender. But the life long damage is what I'm worried about.

Psychological illness from Covid-19?
I have a friend who lived with her dad. Her kids (15 & 12) contracted Covid, but didn't know - their symptoms were loss of smell- very early on before anyone really knew that was a symptom (late March). Her dad then got it- he needed to be hospitalized and put on a ventilator. She got it and was pretty sick, but able to be home and treat it. Her husband got it and had mild symptoms. Her dad had a massive heart attack and died. It took her and her husband weeks and weeks to recover. Losing her dad and barely being able to mourn him because she was so sick and the last time she saw him she had dropped him at the ER at NYU Hospital and he was sick, but not too bad....within 10 days he was gone. She had to take on all the responsibilities of the home her dad owned, deal with the guilt of thinking her kids brought it home to all of them. She's dealing with lots of physical issues now. And she's ben diagnosed with PTSD from all of this. I speak to her and my heart breaks. She's not the same. She had to leave her job and she's selling the house. It's just another part of this scary disease.

Psychological illness from Covid-19?
My mom has said "If it's my time to go, then so be it" and I have to remind her that she could survive and have the awful life long issues. I wish more people understood that it's not just live or die.

A girl I know was diagnosed with Covid PTSD and her whole family (they all had it) still has lingering physical side effects as well.

Interesting. I read it quickly, so maybe I am wrong, but the sample had more females than males. I think more research is needed, but the source is quite reputable.

Yes, the study states that this needs more research. Bigger groups, more peer-reviewed studies to corroborate, etc.
I've seen other studies that were looking into other things, but they also independently found that Covid-19 affects the brain in some ways, as well as other organs.

OK, makes sense. I’m just questioning the female ratio to male ratio. There were more females, and females tend to have more anxiety problems than males; males tend to have more depression.
I’ll wait for more studies, but the scientific info is interesting, reading this journal article.
Bottom line: it affects brains. I can’t quite place it in DSM, but how does this affect those that have pre-existing conditions to mental illness, especially those related to anxiety?

Ugh. I hope this is not the case. The last thing we need is more strain on the health system in regard to mental health with everything we have going on

A good friend of mine had COVID back in March/April. No history of anxiety or other mental issues. She has since been dealing with paralyzing anxiety and PTSD from COVID. Its not good.
