When you leave work at night

When you leave work at the end of the day do you say goodbye to coworkers or let your supervisor or employees know you're leaving?
I am working with a new team and with my old team when people would leave they would yell a quick good night as they left.
This team leaves and no one says anything. My boss sits in an office across the hall from me and she leaves each night but never says a word.
If I leave before, I make eye contact and wave and say good night. Is this strange?

When you leave work at night

I am a teacher. I do not go out of my way to say goodbye to people but I say bye if I see them as I am leaving.

If I pass someone on the way out, yes, but otherwise, not

Re: When you leave work at night

Back when I used to have these problems and was allowed to be in an office... Chat Icon.... My team sat right outside my office. So if i was leaving before them I'd say good night because I was passing them anyway.
If my boss was in (he normally works out of another office and would come to my office around once or twice a week tops), I would pop my head in to his office- right next door to mine- and say goodnight.

If someone was on the phone or away from their desk then I'd just leave.

Last job the boss would look down on you if you didn’t say goodnight, even to the point when we worked upstairs and she was downstairs she expected us to come down the longer way to say it. All about control.

Now we all usually just yell night and leave. If someone is going away, especially the boss we will go by and talk to them.

Re: When you leave work at night

those in our small office (my boss, two managers, and me) always say a quick goodbye or wave.

we spend the majority of the day working on things together. it just feels normal to give a quick goodbye.

if i see someone else on my way out, i'll wave or give a quick "'night."

My team always did when we were working in the office. Not only amongst ourselves but also with others we would walk past on the way to the elevators.
All of this time we’ve been working from home we use our group chat to say ‘good morning’ & ‘good night’

I would if my teammates are still there at my old job. My current job ( when we were still in the office) would just leave. I kinda found it to be a little unfriendly. Now I typically just send a message to the team on group chat if I'm logging off.

at my old job I did and thought it was nice. At the current job everyone would see one leave so it's hard to get out without saying bye. Sometime I would prefer to sneak out without having to esp if I'm leaving early

When you leave work at night

When I was working I always said goodbye to my boss and the surrounding co-workers. Our boss always said good bye as well or at least texted that he was leaving. We did not work 9-5 jobs so it was just expected to let people know when you were in or out so no one was looking for you.

Usually I did if someone was on my way out. Now since I leave at 2:30 the one day a week I’m there I say a formal goodbye to everyone (2 people).

I really just say good morning and bye to the person in the cubicle next to me. I don’t go out of my way to greet anyone else. But my desk is right by the door to my department so if someone comes in after me we always greet each other.

Yes, I would say good night on the way out. It's only polite, IMO.

I say goodbye to whoever is in my office because it’s a shared office other than that no. Only if I pass by people by I don’t go around looking for anyone to say goodbye and I am the boss. My boss doesn’t even have an office in my building. Anyone I supervise I don’t expect them to say goodbye to me

In my previous jobs, I would purposely take a longer route to avoid having to say good bye to people as I left. I hate getting stuck at the end of the day with someone that wants to chit chat and you never know when someone is in the mood.

In my current job (when we were in the office), we all left at the same time so we said good bye as we we were leaving. However, I parked 10 minutes away and some co-workers parked in the same place, so I felt obligated to walk with them so I didn't seem unfriendly. So sometimes, I would stay in my office 5 minutes longer or go to the bathroom to avoid the awkwardness of not walking with them every day.

I guess it depends on the job. I was a teacher and would say bye if I saw anyone on my way out.

It depends. Those that have to walk past my office on the way out usually yell a quick good night but not the ones who don't.
