Time’s Person of the Year
Haven’t seen a discussion on this yet. Thoughts? Mine, slap in the face of all the essentials this year.

Re: Time’s Person of the Year
Even if there weren’t a pandemic going on, you’d still have a problem with who it is anyway.

Time’s Person of the Year
I thought it WAS essential workers. I thought I saw that as a cover somewhere
But I don’t think it’s a slap in the face. I think people still congregating without masks is a slap in the face.

Time’s Person of the Year
I agree. Not justified at all. Maybe next year after they are both in office and we see what they do, but the amount of work some people put in this year with the pandemic, it was a very poor choice. It should have been a front line worker or Fauci.

You hit it right on the nose. People whine and feel entitled. They assert various "freeedoms." They simultaneously take for granted and endanger essential and front line workers.
Plus, the news is full of stories about healthcare workers being harassed and absued in public. They have become the human embodimnet of the reality that so many cannot accept-but rail against. It's disgusting and unfathomable.

Re: Time’s Person of the Year
I think that Time has never failed to name a sitting or elected president at some point in their term, so the choice seemed inevitable. To choose this year? There is a good argument because of how much was at stake in this election. There is also a good argument to have chosen others, from Fauci, to the scientists who developed the vaccine, to all of the front line workers who kept society afloat this year. It's a hard choice. Lots of heroes and hope this year.

Time’s Person of the Year
The president-elect is pretty much always chosen.
However there have been multiple “winners” in past years, so I do think essential workers should’ve been included also.

I didn't know that but I did just read up on that and it does seem they always pick the President Elect. You are right, they should have had multiple winners then.

Yeah, they are just following their pattern.
2020 - Biden/Harris 2016 - Trump 2012 - Obama 2008 - Obama 2004 - Bush 2000 - Bush

Re: Time’s Person of the Year
I don’t understand it. Biden has yet to actually do anything yet. He has offered some plans and hope. If anything comes to fruition let him win 2021. How he could be over healthcare and essential workers this year is the problem with this country. The top always wins. IDGAF about patterns. This year was like no other.

Yes. And to be honest it means nothing. It's a silly award from a magazine. Pay the essential workers more....that would mean something

Many, but not all, unfortunately, have gotten bonuses during this time, which is wonderful.

Re: Time’s Person of the Year
Given the fact we are in a once in a lifetime pandemic, an exception should have been made.
If you are going to do ‘persons’ of the year instead of Biden AND Harris. Why not do just Biden AND all the essential workers?
I get that it’s a stupid meaningless title but still, this is a never before seen pandemic for our generation and it should have been acknowledged in some way.
I would have had the same exact feelings if trump was on it.
It should have been shared. Especially now, when so many essential workers are slowly getting forgotten about and taken for granted now that we have dealt with this for months.
