a little vent
i went to the eye dr right before thanksgiving. i told her that i want my glasses to be only for work. the prescription for distance is so damn minor, i don't need it.
she kept pushing that women our age should just accept that we need glasses and that i should get universal use lenses.
me: no
dr: yes, you'll love it. not having to take them off
me: no thank you
dr: i'll add a note that you'll try them out
me: no thank you, i want what i want
dr: ok, fine
yesterday, i picked up my new glasses. what did i get? universal use not occupational use. i complained. they told me that their policy is that i have to try them for at least a couple of days before they will take them back to change to my new request.
no damn new request!!!!! this is what i wanted from the beginning!!!!!! grumble, grumble, grumble.
now, i'm stuck with either my old glasses or new glasses that don't do what i need them to do. i will never go back to this place.
ps. now i have to wait longer to get the prescription so i can finally get the kelly osborne glasses i really, really want lol

Do you mean progressives?
I was told at age 40 you will need reading glasses. I got to 7 years after that but really need them now. Hubby got reading glasses at age 44 and uses them daily.

Not everyone "needs" glasses. Not everyone "needs" universal lenses. You need what you need, and you want what you want.
I went to the eye doctor on Tuesday. I told her that I only use them for distance, and I just take them off for close work. She's like "OK, makes sense."
I've done that my whole life, and at 48, I still don't need them for close vision. I tried progressives and hated them.
I know people in their 70s that don't need glasses. Everyone is different.

I’m surprised she was so pushy! That alone should be reason enough for them to take them back and give u what u want.

Yes The more near sighted you are the better your close up vision is -even as you get older.
I have terrible vision for distance- I wear contacts at all times. With them in, my reading vision is not great and I would need reading glasses. However, when my contacts are out or I'm wearing my distance glasses and take them off- my close up vision is that of a 20 year old.
So if you wear glasses for distance with a pretty strong prescription- and remove them- your close up vision should be pretty good.
OP- in your case seems you want/need the glasses for reading and don't need the distance help.
They gave you the wrong thing. You didn't ask for it. They are 100% wrong

reading and computer work.
and this is why women in their 40s are always so pissed off lol. we're tired of everyone else telling us what we want.

Ugh. I have a slight astigmatism in one eye. They desperately wanted to correct it. I let them one year about a decade ago and it made me nauseous so I had them correct it. They added a new dr to the practice 2 years ago who would not let me refuse saying I needed it. I demanded not to. Of course they added it and I could tell instantly. I vomited in their bathroom. I made them switch it again. Now it says do not correct for it in ny chart. I refused to see that Dr.

Change doctors asap. There is no reason a doctor is not listening to what you want, as long of course that it's not life threatening. Is this an Ophthalmologist or an optometrist? Either way neither my ophthalmologist or optometrist would ever go against my wishes in regards to glasses like that.

This. My grandma was almost 89 when she passed, she only ever needed reading glasses close to the end when she was doing crafts or crossword puzzles.

Yes, this is me. I'd be really upset if they get that pushy. Last time at my check up the ophthalmologist suggested to change my contacts prescription but I'd need reading glasses. No thank you. I still can read normally with my contacts on, except for the very little font.

This just reminded me of a funny story. I've been wearing contacts since I was 11, I'm very near sighted. A years or so ago I mentioned to optometrist that I was noticing a little trouble with reading, nothing crazy, just not as easy as in my 30's....he said deal with it, you'e too young for reading glasses! I'm actually not that young, but he does not like to over correct.

It seems you are taking about progressives, correct? Glasses for near and far sighted. I wear contacts and have to have reading glasses now. I have no interest in progressives and that is what it sounds like you told her also.
