COVID-19 exposure quarantine/ return to work NYS

Hi all,
I’m a bit confused on finding the latest on this. If you were exposed to a positive COVID-19 person, what is the current quarantine procedure in returning to work? The work paperwork still asks if you have been exposed within 14 days, is it still 14 days or 10 now?
Thank you in advance

It’s14 but I don’t know if it
Is it from exposure or when they get confirmation of exposure
I was exposed at work but the date they gave me that I was done was 19 days after exposure
They gave me 14 days after notifying me as my end date but that was 4-5 days after the exposure

As far as I know it is still 14 days from exposure, I didn't think NY was adhering to the new 10 day CDC guidelines. My doctor has also said 14 days. But from personal experience in my workplace where we have had 7 positive people, they want us in to work until we test positive.

Just went through this. It's 14 days from exposure, the person who tested positive has to quarantine for 10 days from the day of the positive test.
If you are an essential worker, your employer can call you back to work as soon as they need you, as long as you are not displaying any symptoms.
Contact tracing took ten days to contact me, and then contacted me daily from that point until my quarantine ended. (It was a familial contact so I was aware of the exposure, not sure what good contact tracing would be had I not lived with the person.) I'm an essential worker so I had since been back to work, but was under instruction from the contact tracers that I could only go to work, nowhere else, and when I was at work I had to socially distance, wear a mask at all times, and disinfect any surface I touched.

This.

I just went through it because a child in DD's class tested positive. The school notified us that day and the contact tracer called the following day. They text you daily to check in and count down the 14 days. I believe the contact tracers get the info from the county.

It’s typically 14 days after last known exposure. Maybe they were confused and thought you had been exposed earlier? Most people I know were almost halfway into their quarantine period before they were told they had to quarantine (school related)

How can NY State make up their own science and ignore the CDC?

Cuomo knows better than the CDC apparently.

I'd rather we err on the side of caution. But I'm silly like that. Of the 14 people I currently know with it, 2 dropped dead and one has been hospitalized for weeks. So if my work allowed it, I would quarantine an extra 4 days instead of worrying I spread it to someone God forbid.

I believe that the CDC still recommends a 14 day quarantine but understands that it's unrealistic so is now lowering the amount of time and allowing you to test out.

I wish he would adopt it. The CDC really only lowered it so that more people would actually quarantine when exposed. People are more likely not to follow it if they need to take two full weeks off and will blow it off. But if it’s less time more people may follow it.

Personally speaking, I agree and think you may get more compliance at 10 vs 14 day. But who knows at this point.

The CDC still recommends 14 days, but said people can test out at 10 days with a negative test. They amended the number of days since so many people were not quarantining like they should. They hoped the shortened time would encourage more people to comply.

Yeah who knows.
I hear of a lot of people who travel and just blow off filling out the forms at the airport and just go about life.
A co-worker of mine has been away twice to different states and never followed a rule upon return (we work from home anyway but I know they didn't fill anything out and didn't stay home when returning)
Maybe the 10 day would get more compliance but I feel like if you aren't going to comply the few less days won't matter to you kwim?

I'd just check with your company. I don't know that there's a hard and fast rule that anyone is enforcing- whether they should or not. My brother's co-worker tested positive and my brother was out for a week. After two negative Covid tests (2 rapid and 2 regular tests), the doctor's said he could go back to work. He took the first test 2 days after exposure, but the doctors told him to come back again. He went again 6 days after exposure and waited until he got the regular test results to return to work.

With essential workers you are correct. My brother got tested last Tuesday. Didn’t get results til yesterday (he got tested because he planned on visiting my mother but her dr, me and my sister said it’s a bad idea because she’s not in good health) he found out yesterday he’s actually positive. He works for the city. They told him to return to work on Monday as long as no symptoms. No need for a negative test. He never had symptoms and found out by accident really. He’s most likely negative by now but I told him for his own peace of mind, he should get another test by Friday to be sure he’s safe to return to work.

Though i thought General rule is 14 days quarantine without test, sooner if 2 negative tests in a row. That changed?

Yes, I know a teacher who was told the same. You don't even have to test again, just if your symptoms are gone for 72 hours.

They just changed it yesterday to a 10 day quarantine after exposure in NY - to match the CDC recommendations.

Yes, my brother's co-worker was the same. The doctors who tested him told him the same, that apparently you don't spread at that point, even if you test positive.
