About those vaccines - it sounds like there is no reserve of second vaccine doses
Just saw this ......there is a lot of back and forth but this sounds like a disaster.
A snippet:
Despite Trump administration promise, there appear to be no more 'reserve' 2nd vaccine doses to release.
Hopes of a surge in Covid-19 vaccine shipments under a new policy to release second doses held in reserve appear to be evaporating -- with the revelation that those doses have already been distributed, contrary to recent indications by the Trump administration.
A senior administration official told CNN that when the administration announced that it would be releasing reserved doses Friday, many of those reserves had already been released into the system starting last year as production was ramping up.
The revelation appears to contradict what Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced on Tuesday at an Operation Warp Speed briefing, where he said the administration would be "releasing the entire supply for order by states, rather than holding second doses in reserve."

My DH is a volunteer EMT and received his first shot in mid December. He is due for the 2nd shot next week on 1/20
He was told he would get an email from North Shore LIJ (NHP) where he rec'd the 1st shot about the 2nd appt. He hasnt heard anything. He doesnt think he will get his 2nd shot. Total sh#show

I wonder if this is due in part to rushing the vaccines? Or just complete mismanagement.

So what is the expected effectiveness of only one dose?
Obviously this is all a disaster that just won't seem to end, but was this rollout all for nothing or is there still some hope?

I was just reading about this in the Washington Post and did see this:
"Those in line for their second shots are expected to get them on schedule since states are still getting regular vaccine shipments. But state and local officials say they are angry and bewildered by the shifting directions and changing explanations of supply."
So at least that's something for the people who already received the first dose.

I've been obsessively reading as many of the scientific journals on covid and the vaccines since last year, and from what I remember, Moderna stated the 1st dose will provide up to 80% immunity and its the 2nd dose which pushes the efficacy rate to 95%.

I am due on 1/21 and got the email last night with an appt for 1/22

I was vaccinated tonight and already made an appointment for 2/13 for the booster. I was told that there are two allocations to states, first doses and second doses. They send enough second doses for each person who got the first shot.

My hospital hasn’t had any issues with first and second vaccine administration. Hopefully there are no issues
I read on the studies efficacy is around 52% with one dose 14 days after administration which isn’t enough to read immunity. The second dose is important. I think politics needs to stay out of science. The vaccines are developed the way they are for a reason and no one should be changing a thing except the scientists that make them

yeah i know plenty that have gotten the 2nd dose already. people are getting their first doses cancelled tho, i do know that
