Well the market started declining before that.

The stock market has been having all kinds of lows and highs since the pandemic started. But if you are looking to blame someone, Biden has only been around a week so

Record high was after Biden was sworn in.

Exactly. I didn’t bring that up because I really try not to tie the market to the President. I also know the market isn’t an indicator of how the economy (or regular folks) are doing.

But yeah - record high after Biden.

That said, the market has been volatile. Bubble has been forming. We are due for a 2008 repeat it seems.

But I do enjoy seeing regular people making money right now and using the market the way it’s exploited by the yacht owners.

If you are not following the Gamestop saga you are so behind the times. The market is reacting to reddit wall street bets, some hedge fund shenanigans, margin trading of puts and calls, and robinhood.

Ummmm the entire economic backbone of the world collapsed last March. The only reason the market hasn’t followed suit is because it’s propped up by special I interest hedge funds and govt policies. Both political parties prop up the stock market.

In what world does it make sense for stocks to be booming while millions are unemployed and begging for food. This is America. Welcome to the great hoax.

GameStop and Reddit is not large enough to impact the entire market. Did someone losing 5 pounds this week affect the rotation of the earth?

This balloon has been building for months (years)....everything pops eventually.

Gamestock/Reddit situation is taking advantage of the illegality and sickness in the market, not causing it.

It's the uncertainty that the markets don't like. So GME, AMC, etc can have an effect on the markets. Usually short term but trading volume was the highest it's been since 2007 during last week's GME shenanigans. Speculative buying can cause the need to raise cash causing an influx to selling. This would drag the broader market down.

ETA...I should have quoted Queensgal in regards to my answer. Sorry about that.

so the issue is that the hedge funds had to sell positions in other companies because they were being short squeezed. They literally needed to raise capital because they lost 50% of their billions of assets.
