She essentially cut him off from his family and accused them of racism, something I think they will never truly overcome.

You can take him away from his country, his family. You can never speak with the inlaws. But to openly and unabashedly try to destroy them is something I cannot understand. If you want to live a private life, do so.

I'm not sure why they felt the need to air out their grievances so publicly to the world. Why would Harry intentionally try to hurt his father, brother and grandmother? His grandfather is on his deathbed. What purpose exactly does this serve?

The whole thing is sad. The rift between Harry and his brother and father will be insurmountable. I honestly do not see their relationship lasting. That, sadly, will be what may bring him back to his family.

I feel like I watched something completely different than you did. Harry basically said it was his idea to flee, thar he saw the fate of his wife would be that of his mother’s...

Harry said a close family member of his questioned a few times what would happen if the baby came out “dark..”

Harry accused them of racism... and said his brother is trapped. It sounded all launched by him. He said he didn’t realize what freedom was until he met her.

You're right...however wrong I think Megan may be, Harry is twice as bad. Why do this to your loved ones? Privately cut them off, fine, but to publicly humiliate them? It's just awful.

Re: Harry & Meghan Interview w Oprah

I only watched parts of it, but she rubbed me the wrong way when she said the story about her making Kate cry was "the other way around". Why not just say the story was fabricated or something?

And I don't believe her when she says she didn't do any research on Prince Harry before they were dating. Someone in her circle said she was a HUGE Royal Family follower.

Another thing that annoyed me was them telling a part of the story and then saying - but I can't mention who it was. Then why say anything??

I guess I just don't understand their motives behind the interview. What was the point?

To make money and get sympathy. There are a LOT of bad gossip stories around about her - even before they were married. I think more stuff about her has been leaked and they want to get ahead of the curve and get sympathy before it becomes well known.

Do I think that the press has been racist and awful? Absolutely! Do I believe that someone in his family said something about the color of Archie's skin? Absolutely! But I also don't think they're the victims like they portray themselves.

I also seemed to have interpreted everything a little differently. Harry (and Meghan) directly stated that they have nothing but love for the Queen and that she has been kind to them both. SHE didn't take him away from anything. He is a grown man. He is a grown man who watched his mother LITERALLY be destroyed by the press and paparazzi and he didn't want to watch that happen to his own wife and child.

As for why they spoke out-the press has savagely dragged Meghan through the mud and I think they had reached a point where enough is enough. Yes, they want to live a private life, but they don't want to live a private life in fear.

There is a difference between privacy and forced seclusion.

Agreed.
Harry kept on saying how he wants to reconcile with his family and they have many issues to work through. All i kept thinking was "then why are you airing your dirty laundry on international television???" i think he burned that bridge and will never have a good relationship with his family again.

I only watch clips of the interview, but the way she was behaving was so odd. Her face never moved. She stayed with that same half-smile the whole time. It was weird.

I also keep on thinking about the question about Archie's color. I have a friend who is the opposite, the husband is African american with a dark skin tone, dark curly hair, dark eyes. She's white with blonde hair and blue eyes. I distinctly remember wondering the same thing when she was pregnant with her first child. I even remember asking her about the skin tone! None of it was meant to be offensive. I was genuinely curious how their two skin tones would combine, how their hair textures would combine, what eye color would be dominant. And this apparently means I'm racist! yet i couldn't love the child more and would do anything for the kid.
I'm not saying the conversation didn't happen, but could it have been misinterpreted?

i think instead of going on tv, they should have had a zoom call or a sit down with the family to work out these personal issues. does it really matter what the papparazzi think of you?

The weird thing is- when I look at Meghan- I don't see a person of color. If I didn't know her- and know her background, I would not think she is a POC at all. So this whole thing about the skin tone of the baby- it's just odd to me. I mean it's odd regardless, but if I didn't know, I'd think she was maybe Italian? And my husband is Italian and way darker than me, skin tone wise, and nobody ever said- gee I wonder if your baby will be darker skinned like him or lighter skinned like you.

I haven't watched the interview, only saw clips on other shows, but (from another post) - "Harry said a close family member of his questioned a few times what would happen if the baby came out “dark..” " There is a big difference between asking "what would happen if the baby is dark skinned", which more than insinuates a problem with darker skin vs curiosity - which even that I don't understand - I mean, until the baby is born, how would anyone know which genes the baby will inherit? Indicating there is a problem with darker skin is absolutely racist. Wondering about what traits a baby might inherit, regardless of who it's parents are, is not

The entire institute of the monarchy is about “perfect” bloodlines, hierarchy, etc. It’s very basis is racism itself.

It wouldn’t just be a contemplative statement about an incoming bundle of joy.

The problem with the dark skin comment is that we do not know what was actually said and its context. We are led to believe it was a racist microaggression in its sentiment, which it may have been. However, to make such a loaded comment and not allow for a rebuttal is unfair.

I just think people don’t like her. In all my life I’ve never seen or read so many people outright bash or call someone a liar after confessing they were suicidal and afraid to be alone for fear of what they may do to themselves.

I’m trying to think of any famous woman who has admitted she was suicidal and receive backlash for it. Sometimes I think if Harry married a Kate Middleton 2.0, people wouldn’t be saying these things.

I didn't know who she was until she was engaged to Harry. However, at the start she got great press and I remember people being generally very positive towards her. I think the general sentiment on her became negative only after she remained in the public eye. I think it is a testament to her character (not necessarily race). I think Brits tended to dislike her moreso because she is an American than because she is a POC.

I did not watch this nor have a desire to but have read and seen enough on TV to see what was said.

The woman is an actress. I honestly wouldn’t believe anything she says. I don’t like or dislike her but she does come off as someone who is a drama queen and it is her way or the highway.
Weren’t people quitting after they got married as they could not deal with her?

It’s great she has Diana’s confidant to seek advice from. They were going to hurt this woman like they ruined Diana.

I feel like William was the one who was concerned about how dark the baby would be. I gathered that reading between the lines. It’s apparently not his father or the queen. So vile on so many levels.

It’s crazy how they protect creepy Prince Andrew. I’d be high tailing it out of there too. I think they made the right choice.

It makes me laugh too because my DD is darker than their baby. (at half Italian and half Eastern European)
What a ridiculous thing to have to even talk about.

Right?? And it’s like maybe they should worry about the pedophile in the family over a little baby.

I also can’t imagine getting death threats and calling up your family for some sort of support and security detail and being told no.

No matter whatever weird majesty protocols they have or weird ******** rules, to be denied security detail with countless death threats is really crazy to me.

I really don't understand the problem with them being denied security. They aren't poor. They can easily pay for their own security if they felt like they needed it. Chat Icon

I can't understand not providing at the very least Harry with security. He was born into that family and the security risks associated with being him. How they can just halt protective services on him It seems unfair.

Exactly! I watched the entire interview. She brought that up...all on her own. Entirely unprompted and like she added that as an afterthought for shock value. And then it comes up that SHE wasn't there for the comment. It was said to Harry. And then when Harry came on, he said that yes the comment was made but early on. I took it as before they may have even been married. And like you said...we don't even know the context! It could have been a completely benign conversation of wondering what a future child might look like coming from such diverse genetics. But now news media is screaming the monarchy is racist. Okay. Take the story as a whole and make an assessment, not call people racists off of one, one sided comment based on hearsay.

He was obviously very uncomfortable discussing the comment. I bet he was made she brought it up. That was first class sh!t stirring.

On the other hand, would be shocking to learn the royals were not thrilled with the idea of a mixed race marrying their prince? Absolutely not.

In addition to race being an issue, I bet her being an American was a problem too. She very briefly touched on that.

I was not a fan of Meghan. I'm still not but I do feel sympathy for her. She knew what she was marrying into but, as someone who grew up in LA around celebs, she didn't think much of it until she was in it and I get that. It sounds extremely lonely. And the stories about the tabloids are crazy. She hadn't left the house in 4 months and they are telling her she can't leave because they are trashing her all over the media? That's terrible. Nobody should have to live like that.

I definitely also picked up on millennial entitlement vibes from both her and Harry. Their expectations, their hurt over things that were rightfully taken away, etc.

This “institution” is funded by the UK taxpayers and has been forever. IIRC, the queen just started to pay taxes a few years ago. I think if the public is footing bills for them to live this way, they have a right to know about racism, especially with the colonialism in the background.

But I get what you are saying.

That last part.
Let's look at it for what it is.
Harry left his job. When you leave your job, you lose all the privileges that come with it like your salary and your titles, etc. Especially when that position is publicly funded with taxpayer money, when the taxpayers say they don't want to pay for your security you get your own. This was the biggest issue with them stepping away. All the polls said the people did not want to pay for them if they were not part of the royal family. He KNEW that when they left.
Also, he's 36! and instead of figuring things out he runs to daddy to solve his problems and throws a tantrum when daddy stops taking his calls?

It is very clear that Archie isn’t, per a royal protocol, in direct line to receive a title. When Charles is King, Archie, as a grandchild of King, gets a title. Royal protocol doesn’t acknowledge great-grandchildren. She is claiming this is because of race. It’s clear that it’s not. So I don’t believe a word that her entitled mouth has to say.
