Re: 2021 Accomplishments & Goals

i am happy to report that i'm feeling more and more human almost every day!

i have gone two days without an emotional breakdown followed by emotional eating!! yay, me!
my weight is back down to 151... so i'm up the same 7 pounds that were removed. i'm still very swollen in the hips and thighs, so i'm ok with it all.

i've been given he thumbs up to exercise! time for easing into yoga - to regain flexibility - and increase walking.
plus the weather is getting nicer/warmer... which is a blessing and a curse... wearing compression isn't always fun when it's warm.

here's to the spring and outdoor activities!

Re: 2021 Accomplishments & Goals

recovery is such an emotional rollercoaster!

my weight is up about 5 pounds, but i had to buy a smaller compression garment. i've gone from an extra large to a large to a medium. go figure.

i'm trying not to worry about it, but it still messes with your head a bit.

i bought a roller massager and that's helping with the swelling and the incision scars, but i'm still really tight everywhere.

i can't believe that i'm almost at the 12-week mark!
i'm looking forward to the day i no longer need to wear any compression.

You've had quite a journey! At what point do they consider you completely healed?

publicly, most doctors will say that the healing process is about 6 weeks. in private, the same doctors will tell you that it can be a year-long process.
i don't blame them. they do have to be a bit of a salesperson to get you in the door... they are selling a service that few of us really need, especially during a pandemic.

i am seeing/feeling continued improvement. there just are frustrating moments... i've been chubby/fat the majority of my life. i've worn girdles to hold things in and to have a better silhouette. i get surgery so i don't have to do that anymore, only to find that i am wearing a full-body girdle. oh, the irony lol

luckily, southern califorina has had a very cool spring... so wearing what equals two pairs of pants has not been a burden. i would hate to do this at the height of the summer in a balmy part of the world.

Re: 2021 Accomplishments & Goals

Just wanted to start off with huge congratulations to all of you getting healthier and losing weight.
External Image External Image

At my last doctor's visit a few months ago (I go every 3 months because I'm diabetic), he commented on my weight again, and wanted me to increase my insulin that I take, since my numbers were off.
That was the final straw. I've been gaining weight slowly for a while now, and when I hit 250, I finally decided that was too much. I used to be a bodybuilder in college, but I've had a bunch of arm, hand, and shoulder surgeries over the years, so I can't physically do what I used to.

I decided to just eat less of what I normally eat. I'm not cutting out any specific foods, or charting anything. Just less. For me, this is working out great. I don't feel like I'm missing anything, since I can still have everything, and I'm not counting anything, so I'm not stressing about good or bad days.

I'm also back on the treadmill every workday. I started off huffing and puffing after .1 miles. Now, I can easily do 1.5 miles at a good jogging pace, and finish off with walking the last .5 miles.

I'm down between 20 and 25 pounds so far (we have 3 scales in the house, and they never quite agree with each other... Chat Icon ).

Right now, my goal is 199, so I'm "under 200". We'll see how it goes. It's not a hard and fast goal, and I'm sure it will adjust as I get closer to that number.

In college, at peak condition, I was in the 180s, which is why I hate the BMI chart. Peak physical condition, but because I was very muscular, I was in the "overweight" category, bordering on "obese"... with probably 8% body fat. Chat Icon

I'm just happy to be heading in the right direction, and we'll see how it goes.

I'm not running a marathon, though... I much prefer lifting large weights in short distances. Chat Icon Even in wrestling and MMA, I never liked to run very far.

6 weeks seems super fast! My thinking was more along the lines of at least 6 months...at least you are on your way and seeing improvements! I'm sure it can be very frustrating, I'd want everything to be better overnight! LOL

Yeah, 'fully healed' and 'back to work' depends on who you talk to!

2 weeks after corset surgery I was still napping during the day on my lunch break and having to change gauze on open wounds. I had open wounds for 6 weeks I think? Yet, dr said ready for back to work. 'Luckily' it was pandemic time so I was able to do all that at home. I'm at 9 months now after the corset surgery, and I consider myself fully healed; but the scar is still changing in color, etc. I'm at 6 months on arms, and some days I consider myself fully healed and some days no. I dont have openings, but I still have numbness, sensitivity, pulling on movement, so it depends on my tolerance when asked. Chat Icon

You watch housewives and all that other crap TV and think, those people went thru this too, for this long? Or is it that Marathon and I had so much more of our body rearranged that it is a longer recovery. Supposedly one of the teen mom people this season had a tummy tuck and they are going to show the 'real' recovery and how hard it was for her Chat Icon I'll be over here side-eyeing that one.

Marathon - I threw away my corset garment about 3 weeks ago while cleaning the closet. It felt good! I still have the arm compression, just in case. I cant let that go yet.....

I'm between 215 and 220 now, so I'm somewhere in the 35 to 40lb range down from my peak. It's nice seeing the numbers go down on the scale. Chat Icon I'm losing 8 to 10 pounds a month so far.

205 to 210 range. I'm right around 50 pounds down from my peak. I still have a ways to go, but now I'm adding strength training to my routine, so my scale weight loss will slow down as I swap fat for muscle.
Looking forward to 199. It's not a critical weight or anything, but psychologically, it's "under 200", so mentally, it will be a great number to reach. Should just be a few more weeks.

the weight loss group i belong to calls 199.9 and below "ONEderland." it really does mean a lot psychologically to cross that line!

Re: 2021 Accomplishments & Goals

as for me...

i've struggled A LOT, this year.

i had my skin removal surgery in mid February. i will admit that i thought i would look pretty darn perfect after my surgery. i did not. i do not.
because of that, my head went to dark places.

i am still dealing with healing scar tissue (under the skin) issues. i'm currently getting them "medically massaged." the massage hurt, but i am feeling better. it's kind of like physical therapy in that it hurts but it's needed.

with my starting to feel better, i've been taking better care of myself. i'm back on track with my weight loss.

i'm currently back to 151 and i'm starting to look into taking a yoga class.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. It's good that you're working on every aspect. Mental health, scar healing, weight loss, etc. Everything ties together.

The weight loss is slowing down, but still going down, which I think is to be expected. My "friendly" scale (which I know is always 2.5 lbs light, but that's OK... Chat Icon ) is at 199.0 now for two days in a row, so I'm very happy. Next milestone is getting the accurate scale under 200.

2021 Accomplishments & Goals

I have no accomplishments yet since I've gained 30 pounds since last year, but I have some goals.

A friend of mine pointed me to a FB group that has a monthly calendar of Peloton classes - 3 each day and around 40 minutes. Seems like there's a 10 minute core class each day and the other days are upper body or lower body. Then I walk on the treadmill for about 20 minutes.

I also have felt really horrible with all the extra weight gain so I'm doing a detox diet this week to shake things up a bit. It's mostly veggies but can have brown rice, eggs, etc. For lunch I had a wrap with a spinach tortilla, tomatoes, hummus, and shredded carrots.

Goals are important to have. With reasonable goals, I think it increases your chances of sticking with it, and achieving your goals.

Sometimes you need a good "shake up" to start. Keep it up! Chat Icon

Yeah - my therapist and I have been talking about how too much too soon isn't a recipe for long term success. I've made a few small changes over the last few months, but I think I wanted to do the big changes (exercising more than normal and the detox diet) so I can get a little bit of the weight off faster. Then later go back to normal and see what's sustainable for me in the long run.

195 to 200 range now. All of the scales are consistently under 200 now. Chat Icon

My next mental milestone is 185. That puts me in the "overweight" category with that #$%@#$ BMI chart.

I'm not following that chart, though. According to that chart, 154 to 115 is "Normal". When I was wrestling in High School, in my Senior year I was in the 155 weight class, and ended the year at 158. In college, I was heavier because I was lifting a lot of weights in the gym. I was in amazing shape back then, but according to the stupid chart, I was "overweight".
The BMI chart never takes into account people who actually exercise a lot, and gain muscle. I know what looks healthy on me, and I'm just going by that. Right now, I need to lose a lot of body fat, but once I'm at a healthy ratio for me, I'm ignoring that chart, and just going by how I look and feel.

I know this will get dropped to 19 years ago, timestamp wise, but I'll know where this thread is and bump it up when things get fixed.

Consistently in the 190 to 195 range now. I can wear a lot of clothes that I haven't worn in many years. I'll need to buy new stuff, but I want to wait a little longer until things stabilize. I'd hate to buy clothes now, and then in another 6 months they are also loose. Plus, I work from home, and winter is almost here, so I can get away with baggy clothes for a few months more.
