I am completely baffled by this entire story. How does something like this even happen? How was there a bullet in that gun? My DH thinks something intentional was done (IDK if I agree with that). What an absolute tragedy for everyone involved.

I agree with your DH. Why would there be a real loaded gun on a movie set other than as a set up.

I feel so bad for all involved

Awful. I feel for everyone involved, including Alec. He has to live with that for the rest of his life.

Same. I feel like someone switched that prop gun for a real one.

Re: Alec Baldwin gun incident

There was so much wrong that happened. The union people were called off just before and replaced by a 24 year old girl who last month said she did not know what she was doing. There were multiple gun incidents. The AD took the gun from a cart. It was not given to the AD by the armorer. Costs were getting cut. They should not have had a real gun on set. She admitted that she did not know how to make prop bullets and her father who was big in the industry would help her. The nepotism is awful. She should not have had this job. The AD should not have taken a gun without it being checked.

I don’t care for the guy at all but I really do feel for him in this case and especially for the family of the cinematographer. What a tragedy!

The whole thing is so bizarre. Why would there be real bullets in a prop gun other than to set someone up? I feel so bad for the woman who died and her family. I don't like Alec Baldwin but I do feel bad for him. What a horrible thing to have to live with. I can't imagine the chaos that ensued after that happened. They must have been stunned.

After Brandon Lee, there should be no reason to have bullets in prop guns anymore.

Why would there ever be...

- a real gun on set
- loaded
- and why would he point the gun to the cinematographer???

So many questions!

I have some of the same questions. I am confused why there was a real billet loaded and what os even considered a real bullet. Are blanks considered real bullets? And blanks I guess can kill
People. It was it an actual real bullet.

I did just read the reason they were pointing the gun at the cinematographer is because they were going over how he would point the gun at the camera

It was not a setup and I can't even believe people think it was.
It was a failure from the top down. The production had already had major safety issues. This was just carelessness on every level. I feel bad for Alec Baldwin but plenty of people are guilty of creating the environment in which this occurred.

But what I don't understand is why there would ever by REAL bullets on a movie set? Like, how could that even possibly happen? I'm not thinking it was a setup, but how in the world do real bullets wind up in a gun on a movie set? Obviously someone had to bring them onto the set. I just cannot for the life of me imagine why

People keep misusing the words "real bullets" and "prop guns" but in reality, these are REAL guns (not fakes or reproductions) because most filmmakers want the reality of real bullets, real gunfire. Even a blank bullet can still kill. It's very possible that the gun was used in another scene WITH bullets and the handlers did not perform proper checks before giving him the gun. I think more than anything this is just careless.

I know it was a real gun. But still don’t understand why there would ever be real bullets. From everything I’ve heard, this incident involved real bullets, not blanks. That’s the part I don’t get. REAL bullets (not blanks) have no place on a movie set. Why would any scene in a movie require real bullets? (From what I’ve heard, it is virtually unheard of to ever have real “live” bullets on a movie set. Only happens in the very rarest of circumstances.) And from what it sounds like here, there was no reason for, or expectation that there would be “live” bullets anywhere on that set

So it seems that the crew were using the guns on set earlier that morning for "plinking" (shooting at empty cans) with real ammo. And they have now uncovered a box of live ammo in a fanny pack on set. Seems someone really dropped the ball here and it cost this poor woman her life.
