Electricity prices?

Are you guys getting hit really hard with the cost of electricity?

My electricity provider shut down unexpectedly the other day (you can shop for your own company) and I’m now on the city plan because of regulations (you can’t be left without electricity, probably because if companies shut down). So I’m now starting the painful process of looking for a new company (many shut down, so I don’t know if I want to take a risk and go through this again) or just staying with the city provider. I won’t get into details, but it’s such a hassle and I’ve compared too many kWh prices Chat Icon.

Anyway is the situation the same there, minus the fact that you have to take PS&G, or whatever it’s called there?

Re: Electricity prices?

LI has some of the highest utility prices in the US. We do balanced billing so it's pretty consistent with pricing.

Yes, it’s balanced billing here as well and you get locked into a kWh price. So I was paying 44 a month. Then they do the final bill for what you used. But now I’m looking at something like ~70 a month, and if I choose a new company that is cheaper (I found one at 58, then I’m afraid I’ll have to do this all over again.

So my options are:
50 a month, but no price guarantee, with 6 weeks notice if the price goes up, from the city provider.

58 a month with something I never heard of before, but I get guaranteed this price for the next two years. But if I move I can’t take that price with me and have to sign a new contract.

FWIW, the prediction is that prices will go very high because of current events, they are always saying something like not enough wind this year, etc. Others are saying it will calm down soon.

ETA: so are you getting predictions for crazy high prices?

No, no crazy prices at least for us. This was our latest pricing that changed in September. Ours actually went down $12/month which is odd as I have been working from home but not complaining.

We also have a smaller home and no pool or hot tub or many outside lights.

No, not really any predictions of crazy prices as they just go up.
