Birthday snack ideas?

Birthday snack ideas?

DS is in kindergarten (the only grade still getting snacks).

Once a week a kid is picked and they bring in snacks for the class the whole week.
I assume these are standard rules that all schools follow: no candy, no cookies, no nuts, no pop tarts, chips, etc.

For DS's birthday I'm thinking of asking if we can bring in snacks and maybe giftbags (with some knick knacks from party city - tiny puzzles, slime which parents hate)

Any ideas on what kind of snacks would be good for a "birthday" ?

Thanks

Re: Birthday snack ideas?

Our only restrictions were no nuts and once Covid became a thing everything had to be individually wrapped.

So we would send in individual packs of cookies or like hostess cupcakes that are individually wrapped or little bags of chips/pretzels, individually wrapped brownies, packs of goldfish, etc

In the warmer months italian ices were big (but of course had to be brought in right before the snack time)

With all the no no's on your list, that's going to be tough to find a snack.

Woah, your school is nice.
If I was a kid I would love hostess.

we're not allowed to give: pop tarts, cookies, chips, cheeze doodles, candy, cakes, fruit roll ups.

so when it was DS's turn we just gave a weeks worth of goldfish and apple sauce, the kind you suck on

That's crazy that someone has to provide snack each week - you would think with allergies, it's not allowed.

Rice Krispie treats possibly? Prob not allowed though.

Isn't that normal?
I've already posted about my kids' school and the expectations they have of the families.

But yes, every week a child brings in snacks for everyone in class (25 kids) for the whole week.
We're sent a list of the schedule in the beginning of the school year.

Definitely not normal in my schools
Each child just brought themselves a snack each day.
I don't see the purpose of doing it the other way.
Like, why?
Just provide your kid a snack.
the exception was for a birthday- you'd bring in a treat for the whole class

No - we are only allowed to provide food for 3 in class parties, the food consists of fruit and Shop Rite cupcakes. We don't do b-day celebrations, everyone provides their own snacks. Prior to settling on Shop Rite Cookies and fresh fruit - we had to send the nurse the list of what we'd be providing for the parties 10 days in advance for approval as nobody wants the liability on their hands if something would trigger a deadly allergy.

I have a friend who used to have to do this, with similar limitations. She would send pretzels, veggie straws, goldfish, nutrigrain bars, fruit snacks, baby carrots. She also lived in the city.

I second rice krispie treats for a birthday or maybe mini muffins?

Not normal. I send my kid in with my his own snack each day. I’d be annoyed to have to provide snack for every kid for an entire week. I think that is an unreasonable expectation.

It's probably normal in NYC public schools, because I also had that experience when DS was in K. We probably sent as the OP goldfish, apple sauce, also pirate's booties, clementines, pretzels, etc.

- A friend was upset when her DH picked fruit roll ups when it was their turn, because it said "with real fruit" on them Chat Icon -

At DS's school, they always had the kids that brought their own snack because of allergies or other dietary needs.

For birthdays, though, since snack was being provided anyways, we could bring cupcakes to the school, but this was pre covid. Since it is a special celebration, I would ask the teacher if you can bring individually packed cupcakes... or one year we did cake pops that were a hit! If you can't do that, I would send a little favor instead, but I'd check with the teacher first, regardless.

I’d be annoyed too and also having my kids eating snacks I wouldn’t usually let them have on a regular basis.

OP - I’d just do the gift bags. Bringing food sounds complicated.
