What’s a favorite memory?
I stumbled across shasta soda at the store tonight and almost bought a pack. I'm not a soda drinker but a rush of memories came flooding in to my head.
As a kid when traveling my mother always packed a cooler with lunch, snacks and Shasta. We didn't have soda in the home but for pizza night. But, on car trips, we had cream soda. I remember sitting on a blanket eating lunch, I remember club crackers and cheese. Life seemed simpler.
since it's just me, no family to share my memories, I'm sharing with LIfam!
any one else have a fond childhood memory, what special thing did your family do on vacation

Re: What’s a favorite memory?
Not vacation related but food/family related.
When I was kid my grandparents use to have fresh milk in glass bottles delivered which we thought was so cool. They would deliver the milk and leave it in these metal boxes that my grandma had on her porch.
She also use to get deliveries of Charles Chips in these big tin cans. I remember eating them with my siblings and cousins when we sat on the floor with my grandpa watching TV.

Re: What’s a favorite memory?
We always had big Sunday dinners at my grandparents. I remember really enjoying that and having everyone together. The tradition continued after my grandfather passed away, but when my Nan moved out of the house they lived in together, we didn't do those dinners anymore.
My parents and I would go to Lancaster every summer and stay at the old Continental Inn (It's the hotel next to Dutch Wonderland...it's something else now). It was an old-fashioned hotel, but we loved it. They would have barbecues out back, and all of the guests would hang out by the pool and eat burgers...the kids would play together on the playground...it was just nice.

When I was a kid, we had the "bread man". He came a couple of times a week. I lived in the Bronx in a four-family house. He would go to each house and ring the doorbells and yell out "Il pane, Il pane!" (which means "The bread, the bread!" in Italian.) We'd go out to his van and purchase fresh bread. That van smelled delicious!!

Banana splits with my dad
When he got really sick, he knew he didn’t have much time. I was young so I wasn’t fully aware. He used to keep me home from school sometimes and we’d have banana splits together.

I would love fresh bread delivery.

Re: What’s a favorite memory?
One of mine is when my mom would wake us up early for a surprise trip to the beach.

What’s a favorite memory?
My B- Day falls on Election day, when we had off from school my mom would take me to watch morning work outs at the race track. Rain, shine or snow, I stood out and loved every min. At time, they would bring the horse near me for a close up and picture

Re: What’s a favorite memory?
I have a lot:
Sunday dinners with my grandparents.
Going to San Gennaro feast and my mother trying every.year to somehow hope to see her childhood apartment on Mulberry street and waiting for someone to come out. Fishing with my dad upstate. I especially loved the time he carried me on his back under the railroad tunnel to get to a great fishing spot. He sat me down next to a rusted out animal trap and said “don’t touch that.” I was 5. I didn’t touch it . My mother probably would have freaked at places he took us to. It was the early 80s and before Brewster was really built up. Prime location for serial killers to dump bodies.
