magnifying glasses with light for close work
does anyone do detailed, close up work? do you use a pair of magnifying glasses with a light?
if so, which one do you use?
my 48-year-old eyes ain't what they used to be and when i'm working with dark colors, it's even worse.
i'm looking for some help in the small, detailed work i sometimes do.
thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Re: magnifying glasses with light for close work
My husband does some hobby work with motherboards and electronics and uses something like this:

Try reading glasses first if you haven't already done so just for the sake of one step at a time.
I finally broke down and got them about a year ago and they make a huge difference. I use them for things other than reading sometimes. I found myself threading a needle the other day and my eyes were straining until it occurred to me to put them on.

There's an app for that
I don't need it very often, but I have used either my camera app, or downloaded a magnifying glass app to use. It uses the flash to light up the area, too.

I actually finding myself using them a lot more than reading, cutting my nails, even eating.

Re: magnifying glasses with light for close work
The benefit of being hopelessly nearsighted is that when I take out my contacts or remove my distance glasses, my up close vision is like that of a 15 year old! If I'm wearing glasses instead of contacts I just lift my glasses and I can see amazingly up close.
When my contacts are in, not so much- that's when I have to throw on the readers
I'm thinking of looking into a multifocal contact next time actually

To add, when I had my eyes checked the opto said to always use the lowest level reading glasses you can see with. He said if you get ones that are too magnifying you will cause your eyes to degrade faster. Using the lower level reading glasses keeps your eyes working harder instead of allowing them to get "lazy" and rely on the glasses.

OMG I am a mess like that. My husband tries to help and brings me my reading glasses and I am like no, I have my regular glasses. With my regular glasses and contacts out, I don't need them, just to see far away. With contacts in, I need the readers for reading but can't watch TV with them on, or even walk most times lol

Yeah I could see using them to cut my nails eventually.
Eating so far I'm good, although I could find and shovel in food if I were blind.
