What were your early 20s like?

We are all talking about how we are old and do not understand how this current generation is, etc.. But what were we doing between the ages of 20-25? You know before the brain developed. There is no need to announce stupid things you did.

For me:
I finished my first degree (hospitality) and worked in it for a bit and made tons of money and saved.

I travelled around Europe and South Africa.

Decided to study German linguistics and do a study abroad program funded in part by the German government.

Partied my a$$ off.

Settled down in Australia and Germany.

I did what I wanted to do. I would like to travel more, but for some reason have no desire to and just want to live in the countryside outside of a major city and just make a living in the countryside.

ETA: We all have lived different lives, so I'm curious to see how others have done it.

Re: What were your early 20s like?

I was in college in my early 20's like most people. DH and I got engaged in our last semester of school at age 22. Right after graduation we moved down to FL, DH got a great job opportunity there so off we went. We had a few childhood friends from NY that lived down there (a little south of us) so we spent a lot of time with them. We had some fun memories - we had our first apartment, first real jobs, first time on our own. All good experiences.

We got married up in NY at age 23 and by age 25, I was tired of FL and wanted to go to gaduate school so moved back to the island in 2000. I started grad school 2 months later and worked as a substitute teacher while I earned my Masters. I taught full time until I had my DD at 33 years old.

We spent a lot of time in our 20's just hanging out with friends and enjoying life on our own. By the end of our 20's we had bought our first house and were trying to start our family.

Re: What were your early 20s like?

Graduated college a semester early when I was 20.
Got my first "real" corporate job right when I was turning 21 a few months later.
Met my husband when I was 23, got married and bought a house at 26
Didn't have a child until I was 35 though because I was not at all ready for that

Going to college was a waste for me because i didn't end up doing what i studied and went into dentistry. The fun part was lots of parties, lots of clubs, lots of alcohol, lots of sex...man i miss those parts.

Finished college at 19, was engaged that same year. Started first full time job at 19. Got married at 21, almost 22. Bought our house at 25. Had first child at 27.

We waited 5 years to have a child (10 years total of knowing each other) as we wanted to enjoy ourselves, travel, have time to ourselves.

Left college at 20 because it just wasn't for me. Went to Katharine Gibbs to get a secretary certificate so I could start working. Got my first job at Merrill Lynch making more money than my father was. We partied alot and then partied some more. We had a free apartment from our company, free clothes, free drinks and I literally am surprised I'm not dead lol. Rose up the ladder pretty quickly and spent every cent on stupid stuff. Then I got married and divorced. Then 30 hit lol.

I met DH when I was 20, and we got engaged when I was 22. We got married and bought our house when I was 24. He is six months older than me, so around the same age for him.

I graduated college when I was 22 and graduate school when I was 25. I worked in tutoring and freelancing before I started teaching college when I was 27.

I spent tons of of time with my friends in my early 20s. Many of my high school friends stayed local for college, and so did I. We kept the fun going and still do lol.

I probably should have saved more money when I was younger, but I had a good time...so what can ya do lol

I graduated college and got my first real job. I worked a ton and as a result had multiple publications before I was 25. When I wasn’t working I was with my friends or dating randos. It was a blast. I consider my first years working with the friends I made to be the best of my life. I’m so grateful to have lived on my own, galavanting around the city.

ETA I’m pretty sure my under developed brain was sharper than my fully developed one!

Graduated college at 21, turned 22 right after. Broke up with my college boyfriend and then started dating other people. Started my career as an accountant with a large firm in the city, moved to Hoboken with all of my friends. My dad died right after I graduated college so that led to a couple of tough years. But I enjoyed being single and in my own apartment, hanging with friends and doing summer houses. I didn't get married until I was 31 and I am so happy I was single all through my 20s. I think it's important to live alone at some point before you get married and have children and I am so glad I did.

Ha - we sound very similar in our experience! So happy I lived alone and experiences being single in my 20s. I also worked really hard and really long hours but it set me up financially.

I graduated college @ 21 and started working at a big bank in NYC shortly thereafter. I lived at home but went out in NYC a lot (we had a lot of farewell happy hours and I had friends in NYC I stayed with.

I was there about a year and a half and then started at a large insurance co in NYC. After that I moved to Hoboken, got a shore house, started/finished grad school and had a lot of fun!

I met DH at 25 but we didn't start dating seriously until when I was 27.

Re: What were your early 20s like?

Met DH in college at 18, graduated at 22, did masters while working as a teacher. Engaged at 23, married at almost 25. Taught at a hs from 22-27 but was truly miserable so changed career at 27. First baby at 30.
In our twenties we mostly just worked, enjoyed hobbies, traveled, spent time with family and friends. Nothing too wild or exciting but did all the selfish things…. 30s were all about motherhood & babies which changed me a lot.

Re: What were your early 20s like?

Finished college, moved to DC where I knew no one and got a job. Traveled to Europe with friends. I made friends, went to the guy a lot, and on the weekends we would go out dancing at clubs. Went to law school back in NY because of 9/11 I wanted to be near my family. I met my husband and we got married just after I took and passed the bar.

Re: What were your early 20s like?

For me, nothing exciting. I went to college at a local school and commuted. Didn't really have the full college experience because of that (pretty much went to class, work, and home). After I graduated I ended up getting a job in recruiting for an investment bank but I had no life, worked 12 hour days and travelled all the time so I switched careers. Although, if I could go back I would probably see about maybe going away to college for that experience, and to really think about what I wanted to do as a career. I kind of feel like I settled for my current career and don't really make great money. I am finding it hard to switch careers at this point. Relationship wise, I got engaged at 24 and married at 26 (been with DH since I was 18 though).

A lot of fun from what I remember. Great time to finish growing up, travel, figure out who I was. Miss the line free face, tight body and ability to recover from a night out from those days!
