Where to buy bedroom furniture?
Any suggestions? I feel like the Raymour and Flanagan and Ashley's are just not well made, and all kind of look the same. I'm not even sure if people buy the matchy matchy bedroom sets anymore. I don't know but nothing is exciting me enough to buy. I feel like I am missing something. Any ideas for places to buy bedroom furniture that isn't the usual?

Re: Where to buy bedroom furniture?
I know you're in NY but if you ever feel like making a trip to NJ, the Flemington Department Store is REALLY amazing! They have very nice, name brand, high quality furniture at great prices and you can customize most everything you buy from the wood type, wood color, fabrics, etc. They carry furniture for every room and they also have flooring, appliances, decorative items and more. It's a cool store.
They do have a website you can check out but I am not sure how comprehensive it is.

Raymore and Flanigan is crap. Nothing lasts. We spent thousands on a set and in a few years the drawers were completely collapsing. Unfortunately you have to spend thousands at a place like pottery barn if you want something to last. I think you are better off shopping for antiques and having them professionally refinished, from some place like In the Attic TOO

Raymour and Flanagan stinks if you are looking for something long term. I have been looking for bedroom furniture for about 5 years and went everywhere. I must be getting super picky in my old age because I can not find anything that I think is worth the cost.

Re: Where to buy bedroom furniture?
Have you thought about having a bed set custom made? I had that done and love it. I got that for my bed and nightstands.
I then got Ikea (lol) wardrobes since there are no closets here. The Ikea Pax system is amazing and I have had it for 12 years. It’s great. That’s all I have in my bedroom. I love Ikea.

I'm surprised so many of you have had a bad experience with Raymour! We bought our bedroom set from them almost 7 years ago and it's still in brand new condition. We just bought a bunch of LR furniture too and so far its holding up well.

Re: Where to buy bedroom furniture?
I think we bought in 2005 but our bed and dining set are from American Drew and my nightstand is from Bassett. All still in excellent condition.

I don’t think anyone still does matching bedroom sets. We just bought a new bed and all of the sets were ugly. We ended up getting our bed from Bob’s- the quality is fine and it’s not like I was in the market for a family heirloom. When it starts to look like crap I’ll buy a new bed. My dresser and nightstands are from wayfair. I also saw some beds at west elm and pottery barn that I liked.

i would get a platform bed with an upholstered headboard, and then just get dressers that compliment it. We have distressed white farmhouse looking furniture from wayfair, and then we got an upholstered bed frame and memory foam mattress

Re: Where to buy bedroom furniture?
Our Raymour bedroom set is over 10 years old and still in perfect shape. I had no idea people didn’t buy bedroom sets anymore. That seems like too much work- trying to find different furniture pieces at various places that go together. No thanks.

Re: Where to buy bedroom furniture?
Zimmerman’s in East Islip has gorgeous good quality stuff. He styled my bedroom around one piece I fell in love with and it’s got that not-matchy magazine look. $$$ but it still looks new 7 years later.

Re: Where to buy bedroom furniture?
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I am going to look into them.
In terms of bedroom sets- I agree that I am too lazy to be sourcing furniture from different sources and trying to pull it all together to look good. Maybe if I had a decorator. But most of the bedroom sets I've seen either are not my style or don't suit my needs (don't have the kind/size of dressers we want etc)
I am not looking for heirloom quality either to be honest. I had mentioned us getting stuff off wayfair etc as I do like the look of a lot of their pieces- and DH said, oh but the quality isn't great. Well neither are the majority of these places. And it's not like you are paying cheap prices either... they seem to charge an arm and a leg and the quality is eh.
I just need it to hold up decently and look presentable. The set we have now is from 20 years ago (I think we got it in one of those furniture places in Farmingdale) and it's held up fine. It's just sorely outdated now and we are redoing the room.
This is why we haven't done anything yet- because I get overwhelmed with figuring out the furniture.

Try gothic cabinet craft. I think they have a store in Farmingdale on 110. I got bedroom furniture there when I was a teen and my 12 year old has been using it as her furniture and it is still in perfect condition. You can choose your finish and color which I love.

Re: Where to buy bedroom furniture?
My bedroom set is from Stickley. I would only get a made in USA set not their internationally made stuff. Room and Board, Or Flemington Department Store. I know it is far, but if you go to any of those amusement parks in PA it is worth the trip.
