Anyone follow Maksim Chmerkovskiy (dancing with the stars) on Instagram? I know he is stuck in the Ukraine and posts what’s going on. Scary stuff

Yes, I've caught a few of his IG posts.

The whole situation is so terrible.

I have seen a few but just started following as I think of him a lot when they talk about them getting closer to taking over where he has been. :(

AND IM sure I missed ALOT!

Who gives a shit what Trump did or didn't do. He is not in office. Biden is and whatever happens now is on his administration.

I would normally agree or at least agree with the general logic behind this. But not with what he did. There are too many actions Trump took from which you can draw a direct line to Putin's action here. Sorry not sorry, they can't be ignored. Zelensky was on the other end of the 7/25 phone call during which Trump threatened to withhold aid if Zelensky didn't provide dirt on Biden. This was the subject of the first impeachment. It was a level of corruption nearly unparalleled and he should be in prison. If that didn't happen Ukraine would have had greater military capabilities, Putin would have perceived it differently, and we wouldn't be where we are today.

Obviously it's now on Biden to fix this. I was unsure at first but I actually think he is doing a great job. He is the main leader of a newly unified effort in favor of democracy and his negotiating skills and relationships went a long way towards getting Germany to nix the pipeline, give weapons, etc.

I know the above statement will be met with mocking, nastiness, and sarcasm (not referring to you Karenk122 or at least I don't think so lol) but flame away. Sometimes true leadership looks like quiet diplomacy behind the scenes instead of a nasty word, isolationist front, or an overture to a dictator.

I'm too tired to mock tonight lol...don't worry : ). My point was not that Trump didn't do anything wrong but with every Presidency you look at, none were perfect in dealing with Russia. Blaming what was done or wasn't done in the past does not fix what is happening now. I'm just tired of the blame game (and not just with this topic)

You’re right in that blaming administrations past and present doesn’t help the situation now. I know, at least for me, looking at at all the causes just helps me to understand better. I think that is just human nature.

That being said, Biden did help Germany to get its act together. I don’t know what they were thinking. Well, I know what they were thinking (on-going energy crisis), but that was short-sighted.

So what’s the outcome?

Fast track Ukraine into NATO? That will piss Putin off as he so desperately wants that NATO buffer. But then what’s next? Belarus? He has threatened Finland and that’s not cool as it’s part of the EU. I’m not even sure of the logistics of a fast track really.

Will the sanctions work? Or will he burn Ukraine down to the ground?

Perhaps there will be a political coup and someone will oust Putin out of power?

Or is he just going to go nuclear (literally)? This option frightens me for obvious reasons.

I read someone who was in KGB “school” with Putin, and he remembered Putin saying that as a young child while trying to catch a rat, he learned that you always have to strike first to win.

Is this Putin’s hill to die on? He really needs to be stopped before he goes further.

THIS and it is nice to see that Ukraine is fighting back so hard that I bet it is surprising him.

I am in compete awe of the Ukrainian people. I have heard the stories from stateside Ukrainians of what their loved ones are going through. Incredible proud and loyal people. It truly puts things in perspective and highlights the petulant childishness that goes on in our country, all a matter of privilege. Putins war is a war against democracy and western values, against the wide support of their democratic leader President Zelensky and likelihood that he would escort Ukraine into NATO, Putins desire to return Russia to the Soviet power of the USSR. This would have happened imminently regardless of our President.

Absolutely I agree. We are very spoiled here when you look at what goes on in the rest of the world...
