So like....do we just accept the LIE will be unnavigable soon?
I'm being dead serious. There are parts of the LIE by me that are almost to the point of being too dangerous to drive on. I saw a few people with tire blow outs yesterday and every time I drive on it I feel my car is being destroyed. It's actually a huge hazard to even be on a road in that bad of condition.
It looks like nothing I have ever seen in a first world country.
Is this just the "new normal"? Do we just accept that our roads are basically impassable? Will it just continue to degrade until we can no longer drive on them and have to go back to a horse to navigate such rough terrain?
Who do we report this to? The DOT? The state?
Do you think they will ever fix it or is this it? Do we just accept that our past years were our finest and now this is it for the state?
I'm being serious- how is this even acceptable in the year 2022 in an area with the amount of taxes that Long Island has?

I read an article very recently that resurfacing/repaving the LIE was approved and should be happening this summer. I'll see if I can find the details.

That's why I take the service road as much as I can as they have been fixing spots so there is only really 1 pothole I encounter on my way to work and maybe 1 or 2 on the way home. It is horrible though when we do go on the LIE in many places.

Thank God! This is literally the worst I have ever seen any road. It's becoming hazardous

It's crazy. DH had a tire blowout after hitting a huge pothole on the LIE last year. He submitted a claim to be reimbursed for the cost of a new tire to the DOT including pictures and a description of where the pothole was (even though there are literally potholes everywhere) and his claim was DENIED and he was told there is no actual proof that he hit a pothole on the LIE. So ridiculous. He had to pay for the tire plus lose a days pay for missing work.

Uggh that sucks. My DH just hit a pothole this morning with my car and had to change the tire and was late to work and hopefully later he said he will see if it just needs air in it and not a brand new tire. It's a brand new car.

What about 55 and east?? It's a freaking disaster, looks like a war zone.
I am disgusted with the amount we pay in taxes that the roads are undriveable and there is freaking garbage everywhere.

We have no money to fix anything. Because we have greedy, do-nothing politicians on both sides who have no interest in infrastructure because all the taxes we pay goes to their bloated salaries and their ilk.
I don't know why we act so friggin surprised. We've been saying it forever but people keep voting for these crooks. It won't change unless people want it to.

Speaking of bloated... how does it cost $43 million dollars to pave like 10 miles? And likely get a sh!t job done.

I actually thought it was a very small amount of money - and fear it is just going to be another crappy patch job. Suffolk LIE really needs to be re-done.

I get on at Nichols and the LIE around that exit is awful! I feel like we live in Costa Rica. It's disgusting how many cars are getting blow outs. I would be suing the county for reimbursement or whomever it is that is in charge of the roads. 347 and Old Town is awful as well!

I wonder if that is even possible and if anyone hears of such a thing I would like to know as I will have to buy a new tire also.

Someone in this thread said their husband submitted a claim with pictures etc and it was denied saying you can't prove you hit that pothole. I expect nothing less to be honest.

Yeah I saw that and I doubt they will do anything as there is just too many people they would have to pay.

It seems easier to do in NYC than anywhere else. Oddly though I rarely hit a pot hole in the boroughs.

Dh was just telling me that when he was a cop in NYC he used to write police reports for people who damaged their cars on bad roads all the time and they would use that to get reimbursed. NYC has better infrastructure in general though for some reason
