Has anyone made their own hot sauce?
I love spicy things, so I bought a few hot pepper plants for my balcony. I have three jalapeño plants and I got a Scotch Bonnet plant. I would like to get a Carolina reaper plant and a Naga chili plant, but I’m going to wait for next year because I’m moving in August and I don’t want to have too many. You also have to order the latter two. I was able to get the first two at the garden center.
I will probably go back and get one-two more plants. I think I want to get another Scotch Bonnet plant and I may get a Habanero.
I love different hot sauces, but I currently stick to two: Valentina and Lol-tun.
I would like to try my own if my plants produce a lot.
Anyone ever do this? If so, how long does it last. I’ve done hot salsas with dried chilis, but never chili sauce.

Has anyone made their own hot sauce?
We did 2 years ago- my DH found recipes online, we actually bought the peppers at a farm stand and spent some time blending and adding different flavors to them...they were okay. nothing great LOL. We jarred them and kept them in the fridge- only used them a few times and then fell back to our favorites. My dad grows red hot peppers and de-seeds them, puts the seeds in oil in a jar and we use that a lot more. it's basically just chili oil- but it's great on pretty much anything.

Your dad forages for mushrooms, too, IIRC? I like your dad .
How long do you keep the chili oil? How long did your homemade hot sauce last? I keep getting varying opinions on this. I made a dried Habanero and mango hot sauce today and it went nicely with my Halloumi tacos I had for lunch (I have off for three weeks as part of Easter break, so lots of time to cook).
I’m wondering how long it can keep for? It has vinegar in it.

Yes! My dad (and me & DH becuase we love doing it with him) does a lot of oldschool italian things from when he grew up. My dad is literally the best person on earth, we refer to thim as the G.O.A.T. We jar a lot of different things- the mushrooms, green tomatoes, peppers, olives (some with vingar, some with oil. We also make sausage, prosciutto & our own tomato sauce every year. We joke that we have true heirloom tomatoes because my dad has been seeding his tomatoes for years and starting new plants from them every single year. Our general rule is to keep these things in a fridge or cool, dark place- (my dad has a room in his basement specifically for all of these things) - they are good at least a year. many of the other things we make last longer than a year! Honestly- they don't usually last that long (becuase we all eat them LOL) , but you can tell when they are no longer good- just be smell/consistency. I think if refrigerated & open, 6 months at least.

Thanks! Just worried because I used fresh mango, but I used vinegar and people say it’s ok if you use vinegar. Your explanation makes sense.

My husband does as he does competition wings. His hottest sauces can melt paint off walls. Our youngest has been eating hot stuff since she was two. This is a spice loving house.
He jars it just like jam and stores in fridge. Lasts unopened for years.

Is that like Hot Ones? I love that show.
I have a very high tolerance for heat, but I would like to expand it more.

No like competitions in NY for best wings/sauce.
