Moving up/graduation ideas

Somehow, I got put in charge of 5th grade moving up. Since we haven't done anything in 2 years really there aren't any moms I can tap into (that I know anyway) to help me with what was done in the past.
I know I have to get balloons but what types of things were done at your child's moving up that was cute? Like any decor or photo areas or snacks? I'm just not sure and our principal is brand new so not much guidance there either! I can basically do whatever I want.

Moving up/graduation ideas

I was in charge last year and it was the first time we did it outdoors. I contacted a balloon vendor and had an arch made, and some towers & boquets of balloons. I purchased some graduation backdrops and set up 3 or 4 photo stations. We got flowers for the teachers and principals- made a little speech and presented them. we had cupcakes done and put in individual boes with mini water bottles on a table to take & go since we couldn't be inside- but typically there is a little reception in the cafeteria with cake/coffee/drinks/snacks. We actally preferred the outdoor setup and they will be continuing with that going forward.

Did you do the cupcakes for everyone or just the graduates? Great ideas! thank you!

We only did them for the graduates- but again this was becuase of all the restrictions at that point- we are in NYC and we're lucky they even let us have ceremonies (we had to do three separate ones to stagger classes). Typically, when it's indoors, we have enough for everyone. We were trying to keep it moving since we had several ceremonies in one day.

OH! and we also gave out swag bags that day- senior shirts, candy, water bottles, flash drive, and some other stuff that we ordered (from amazon, oriental trading/party city) all graduation themed.

If you're looking for a balloon vendor, I highly recommend Balloon Boutique Long Island

We actually almost did the same exact thing. We did cookies instead of cupcakes though because we were afraid of melting. We also gave out sling bags with the middle school's name on it and some goodies inside.

Pre-covid - they usually had a reception after the graduation ceremony for families (fruit, muffins, etc) where everyone could hang out and take pics with their friends/teachers/etc.
