That's a problem waiting to happen.
That's like going to bed with your doors and windows wide open. Like why?

Another school shooting

I can't even believe that after Sandy Hook schools still have unlocked points of entry. I know my oldest DDs old elementary school only had one point of entry and the security guard was always right there by the door. DD #2 goes to school out here and her school only has one point of entry and you have to be buzzed in and there is a vestibule before you enter the building. DD #1 is in HS now and same only one point of entry when school is in session and you have to be buzzed in.

I mean locking all doors and limiting access is a FREE easy solution.

Also did anyone else hear that apparently this shooter was in the school for almost an hour without being apprehended and shot? I don't know how true this is but this is what is coming out. IF this is true that is BAT SHIT crazy to me. Like How? WHY?? MY God!! My mom heart cannot even take this anymore. I literally want to buy a farm and raise my kids in isolation...society is crazy.

I read that too. Wtf, why couldn’t they act faster?!? A whole hour is insane to me. I’m reading also that the teacher’s husband died of a heart attack 2 days after his wife was shot. Chat Icon

Seriously? Even in the 1970s when I was in Catholic elementary school, the doors were locked from the outside. Of course, you could get out, but you couldn't get in through any door but the front door! (The front door may have been unlocked, but I don't know.)

In this day and age, you have to get buzzed in for everything! Why would the doors be unlocked?

I read about the police being outside for an hour as well - but it CAN'T be true. I can't believe it if it is. And if it is true, it is INFURIATING and I want answers as to WHY??
As for the teacher's husband - I was shocked when I read it. That poor man died of a broken heart.
I hate this world.

I just watched the timeline on the news. Took 10 mins from the first 911 call for the police to arrive after he shot at 2 people at a funeral home across the street from the school. Then it took an hour for the tactile team to arrive because the police couldn’t get into the building. I don’t understand! They couldn’t break a window and get in??

I don't want to Monday morning quarterback but yeah that sounds nuts. Take something and throw it through a window at that point. I could probably have gotten in quicker. Jesus Christ.

Another school shooting

Let’s be honest. We will never get anywhere with gun control. Too much divide etc etc and even stricter guns laws don’t prevent shootings. sandy hook and the recent Buffalo shooting both occurred in highly regulated states. A bi partisan solution: instead of sending 40 billion to Ukraine, let’s make every school in America like this https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/inside-the-safest-school-in-america-1166029891710. We spend 40 million for new football stadiums,,we can spend 400 k for this. Also , the single entry point should be guarded by 2 , well trained , well armed guards. Remember how we’d see multiple officers with bullet proof vests and assault rifles walking the subways after a terrorist threat ? The same thing should be happening here. Also, the security guard cannot be an out of shape 70 year old with a handgun. We need someone in good shape , who is well trained in active shooter situations , ready to go. I wonder if a lot of towns wouldn’t be able to crowd fund something like this. A neighboring town near me raised 5 million for a new soccer field. This

The timeline I saw said it took 11 minutes for the school to be advised of the lockdown from the time of the 2 people getting shot across the street. He was standing on school grounds taking shots. Then he was in the school for 43 minutes-1 hour before they entered.

Did you see the video of the parents outside trying to get past the cops? The video is so upsetting. I was bawling my eyes out watching it. I am a huge supporter of police and I know they have protocols; HOWEVER, there were 80 cops there setting a perimeter for 45 minutes? 80!!! While they listened to gun shots! You can hear the parents screaming in distress. Its just awful.

And this is Texas folks! Chock full of cowboys and gun owners! They were still helpless! Can you imagine this happening in our foo foo state? All I envision is a bunch of vegan hipsters leaning through the window shouting violence isn't the answer and to come outside so we can talk about their feelings over a kombucha. Our kids would have ZERO chance.

Ugh I know. I saw that. You look to the police to help and to see them standing around helpless while your child is locked in school with a madman shooting away must have been horrifying.
There had to be a way for them to get in there sooner, but again, I wasn't there so I dont' want to judge but it just seems to have taken way too long.

And yes, I wonder if a social worker would have been more helpful than the police.

I won't go into detail because of how people on here would use the info but I work in a very, very liberal organization and a person was shot and killed last year right outside my workplace, not far from where I was standing. We have several people who work here who you might describe as "vegan hipsters" and the response to contain the situation and help the victim could not have been more different from what you described, not in small part because we actually had the door locked.

I think this could not be a clearer example of the need for gun control. A veritable army couldn't stop the guy. It's about keeping automatic weapons out of peoples' hands because once they are in them it's not easy to control the movement of one human being. Stopping events like this happens best preemptively, and statistically speaking we are much, much safer here than elsewhere. The states with lax gun laws actually have much higher per capita instances of gun violence. And studies show that most of the guns in Chicago - a city often invoked as a deflection point from the right wing - come from the surrounding red states, specifically Indiana. We also don't have a strong gun culture here in terms of automatic weapons, which are almost always used in these horrifying events.

We used to think about getting out of NY but between things like this, Roe v. Wade, etc. I'm not sure I will ever want to move out of this state unless things change elsewhere. Statistically, this is a much safer place to be.

I'm sorry you experienced that work place tragedy.
That's truly terrible. I don't disagree with you. There is no reason for anyone to have automatic weapons outside of combat.

It blows my mind that we as a "super power nation" currently can not adequately feed our babies, we can not keep our babies safe but yet we are arguing over laws about babies that are not even here yet. What a disgrace.

Chat Icon

Connecticut is probably more liberal than New York, and the response time at Sandy Hook was about 4 minutes.

The entire state of Texas (not to mention the nation) should be horrified and embarrassed at the way their supposed “police force” responded to this tragedy. These gun slinging cowboys talk a big game but when push comes to shove they are useless.

If we’re going to talk about gun control you should actually know the difference between automatic and semi-automatic guns.

Re: Another school shooting

Ah he’s, just remove the two bolts that make the semi automatic weapon a thing.

The response time was an hour. They went in for their own kids and let the MF walk to FOUR classrooms to kill kids.

They pepper sprayed and handcuffed parents who wanted to go in and stop the massacre.

The MF waited 12 minutes before going into the school. The police were doing nothing. I am so upset. I want to vomit how people treat living breathing kids, and are too concerned with controlling womens bodies.

Whew. You had me sweating bullets for a minute. The last thing I seek is affirmation from the woke-brigade.
