Teacher question

Do your children’s teachers (elementary school) communicate with the parents in any way during the first week of school? By communicate I mean a mass email introducing themselves, class expectations, sharing the google classroom code so we can log in, etc? Not granular conversations. Basic information conveyed to the parents of 6-7 year olds.

We usually get a welcome email. We dont get the google classroom code though (I usually log in as my kids though to check).

A few years we didnt but it was because back to school night was close to the first day of school so they discussed everything there.

Teacher question

Our school has the teachers do welcome letters prior to the start of school. All other information is given at Open House.

Thanks all. We have gotten literally nothing. I only know the teacher’s name because its in the parent portal. She’s new to the school (not new to teaching) so I don’t want to start emailing the AP complaining but this is super weird. Back to school night isn’t for 3 weeks.

Very odd!

For my 7th grade son- each class has written a letter of expectations that I have had to sign. For my 5th grade son (also in middle school) I have gotten emails from his core teachers (math and science sent out two already). No correspondence is odd.

That seems unusual, maybe there was an introduction letter that got lost in the mail or your child didn't bring home?

Teacher question

My son’s teacher has communicated with us through Clever, ClassDojo, and fliers. He’s in third grade.

I teach HS and sent out a welcome email today with general information and a survey for them to fill out about their child.

If she is brand new to the building, she honestly may not have access to some of the online things yet. Teachers in my school are still waiting for their emails and stuff. One also came up to me crying because she didn't know how to put in for copies at my school. Some schools provide zero support to new staff, and it can be very hard to get your bearings early in the year.

Give it time, because it's entirely possible she just isn't totally set up yet.

That’s a good point. The school itself is a hot mess and their communication is generally horrible. They just changed the kids’ email passwords and didn’t notify parents so a bunch of us had to try out passwords until someone hit.

Last year they sent an email titled “EMERGENCY.” During school hours. It was supposed to say “EMERGENCY TEST.”

So yeah, you might be right.
