What a shame
That people would allow her to win after what has been going on in NYS.

Re: What a shame
I know. It was close, but very disappointing.
The city is hurting and isn’t a place I would take my kids which I used to like to go for the holidays. I am just so disappointed in humanity.

Re: What a shame
It's really mind boggling.
Especially the people who live in the city. They are unsafe. The governor was touting her strict gun control laws. That's great that law abiding citizens who legally get guns are now given more obstacles to protect themselves but what about all the people in the subways getting bludgeoned and stabbed to death? What is she doing about that?
I was beyond thrilled to see a female governor but she is a total disappointment.

Same. Although I haven’t gone into the city in recent years I was thinking back to when I was DD age (10) and my parents used to take me in all the time for the holidays to see the tree, macys, etc. and when I was 17 , I used to go into the city all the time on weekends with my friends and hang out there all day long. I wish the 5 boroughs were its own separate entity. I am so disappointed (and tired as heck right now after watching this unfold into the wee hours. )

What a shame
I'm actually surprised that it was so close. I think that Zeldin wasn't the right candidate. The republicans needed someone else who can appeal to large different groups of people. Who that might be, however, I have no clue!

Re: What a shame
I don't get it especially if you live there and see what has been going on.
Let's see how fast they will be complaining when their kids have to be vaccinated to go to school like they did with the college kids.
People don't do any research on their own anymore and believe everything they hear and that is what they did with Zeldin (especially the abortion part).

Gun control is great but most of the crime is not with guns. How about being pushed in front of trains, knifes, hammers, machetes, or the woman who was raped while jogging last week? That scumbagg didn't have a gun. He choked her to unconsciousness and raped her on the street. I won't set foot in that cesspool of a city and I would never bring my child there.
Let the people who voted for this crap go see the crappy Broadway shows and eat in the overpriced restaurants. God speed...Hope you don't get attacked after seeing Hamilton Are they still requiring masks in the theaters too?

Who knows but wait until their young kids will have to get booster after booster and they have to hang on to a pole in the subway so they don't get pushed on the tracks. So sad how people think and how there is no common sense anymore.

At this point I think that no Republican candidate would ever be ok. They will always find a reason to smear them and that would be enough to make him or her lose. With Zeldin, they kept focusing on abortion even though he kept repeating he couldn’t change the law but that was enough for the dems to cause people to not vote for him.

Re: What a shame
Well on the bright side people can now be assured they can get as many abortions as they want. That is what I believe people voted for.
I mean, it’s likely you will be stabbed or killed or maimed with a hammer on your way to the clinic. But still.

People only listen to what their great aunt's best friend's boyfriend's grandmother says. They do NO research on their own and many don't even watch or follow the news anymore. It is scary how little many know what is going on around them.

I am really surprised even though I don't live in NY anymore. I can only go by what I hear from my family and friends and old coworkers who are based in the city. But how could anyone think she has done good things for the state and want more of the same thing? I am sorry.

When you look at the election map - she won NYC and a handful of other counties (including Erie I believe where she's from/Buffalo?) But the state looks predominately red, it's just where the higher populations are.

That makes no sense! I loved the city years ago, but now when we visit I do not go there.

What a shame
I am very happy our newly redrawn Congressional district swung red and the incumbent, who told people to combat inflation by eating cheaper food like Chef Boyardee, lost.

The image of the voting distribution within the counties for the state is infuriating. There are 62 counties in NY and it looks like roughly 10 or so were blue. How is that democracy??
Forget party lines. I'm over that whole thing. Both parties are chock full of lying chumps. I voted for change. Quality of life sucks here. It is overly expensive, infrastructure is crumbling, it is unsafe, education is disorganized and crime is rampant but hey! let's just keep voting for more of the same!

Covid. I know they are not up to that yet but they made the college kids get boosters so next will be school age kids if it is up to Hochul.

I think Zeldin was the right candidate. He made a mistake on siding with Trump being anti-abortion with no exceptions. That is why he lost.

I thought it would be a lot closer than what it was. Zeldin got destroyed as Hochul's base came out and voted in numbers. That's a shame.
Can't blame Long Island though. Both Nassau and Suffolk went red with all red congressmen winning. Even Staten Island of all places went red.
This state sucks. The future is what's happening in Florida.

She won 13 of 62 counties. Those 13 counties have large populations. That’s all she needed. Everyone gets a vote. She got the most votes. That is democracy.

It wouldn't have mattered who ran on the Republican ticket. Nor did anything about her or her policies matter. Her base would have voted for anyone and against anyone on the other side to keep the status quo. So I hope they enjoy it.
