Anyone following the Ohio rail disaster?
While we are at it I feel there was little to no coverage about the attack on women in Iran. We are over here drinking our lattes and going about life while everyone’s dying all over. What’s the sense of it all?

I feel the same lately. Life and the world has become so depressing. I don't know if it's because I'm older and notice things more but man, dark clouds everywhere lately

I know. I can’t wrap my head around the over 43,000 people dead from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. So many still missing. There is so much suffering all over the world, we forget how fortunate we really are.

I think the Administration could handle the Ohio disaster better.
However, what’s going on in Ukraine is very important, especially with Spring coming up. I have read and observed a lot and the situation is escalating quite a bit. I’m more worried about Ukraine, tbh. Maybe because it’s right on my doorstep, who knows?
But to give them 500 million MORE? This has been going on for a year now and how about helping OUR country first.
I get what you are saying. The war in Ukraine has been going on for a year, yes. But it is about to get serious.
And, yes, I get wanting to help OUR country first. I totally get that. I think we need to look at the collective picture here. Yes, something horrible happened in OUR country. But something worse may happen overseas and things need to be taken care of there first.
Why? Why can't we EVER think of our country first? I know you are vested more into this because you are closer to it but there is so much in this country that can be helped first. I am sure if you were living in Ohio and not able to go home or drink the water, you would agree too.
I wish I could comment more on this, but I can’t. I’m sorry, but I can’t.
And I agree. It kills me that this environmental disaster has happened. It’s like two choices: your daughter or your son. The administration has to choose and balance.
That’s all I can say. The world is really difficult right now.
I doubt you would say that if you lived in Ohio near this.
And I doubt you would say that if you were living where I am right now.
ETA: I am an American citizen.
Is there a reason you stay an American citizen when you know you will never live over here again?
Yes, there are a few reasons. 1. I would have to pay thousands of dollars to get rid of my US passport. 2. Dual citizenship does not exist here yet. 3. I would like to have the option to one day go back. 4. It isn’t easy to just give up your citizenship from a psychological POV. I could get my German passport now, but I still would be American if that makes any sense. 5. It’s easier to have my US passport when I fly back to visit my family. 6. Better services for me if a war breaks out wherever I am in the world.
Probably more reasons that I can’t think of now.

I feel so bad for those people in East Palestine. At a minimum, they should have been offered a place to relocate until this could be handled. These people are going to die from this and our elected officials are just a bunch of clowns. This should not be a political issue of whose administration screwed up the most- these are human beings who pay taxes to live here who voted for these fools and to seem them ignored is just so appalling. 1. But yes, lets send billions of dollars to Ukraine. 2. Let's make sure undocumented immigrants have unfettered access to shelter, cell phones, health care and whatever else they need and make sure all the news crews are present when they protest the quality of their free shelter. 3. Let's continue to ignore mental health issues and have innocent people slaughtered every day 4. Oh! And Rihanna is pregnant again so yay! 5. And look! A balloon!
I'm just so disgusted.

I agree with all of this but a vote won't help because everyone who is running on both sides suck.
The US is going down a terrible path and I do not see it getting better any time soon. There will be more civil divide and this country will break. We need to learn to take care of our first and then when we have our own shit under control, go help the rest of the world.

And how would you suggest that? 1. hundreds of military bases would need to be closed right away all over the world. The US Army would need to stop training the Ukrainians there. 2. Are you prepared to deal with even higher prices now? 3. Raise minimum wage. The COL has become impossible for many yet so many corporations are having record profits. 4. Healthcare for all.
There is no way that will happen without higher taxes. I highly doubt many on this thread would agree with all of this.

So what is your solution. To just ignore everything going on here to take care of everyone around the world. That is why people hate Americans. The arrogance of pretending to help fix everyone when our own country is a mess. Maybe, just maybe if we weren't funneling money constantly to other nations, we could fix our health care, cost of living, homelessness, starvation, mental health and our own environmental crisis. And please do not respond to me. You have chosen not to live in the US by choice so your opinion on how ****** up the US is, is of no relevance to me.

Anyone following the Ohio rail disaster?
I just read an article on CNN stating that contaminated water is set to be transported to Texas for disposal by an environmental cleanup company, and contaminated soil is being disposed of Michigan. They tried contacting the company to see exactly who they “dispose” contaminated water but received no response, scary…

I think that you are missing the point that the US gives more humanitarian aid than any other county in the entire world, and not just by a little. Meanwhile things here are falling apart to the point that people actually believe that the civil unrest will lead to a civil war. Our healthcare, schools, infrastructure etc are in the toilet. You are out of touch because you do not live here and can probably count the number of days you have spent stateside in the past decade on two hands. So I hate to say it but you can have an opinion but it’s not worth very much not having first hand experiences living in the United States. The only reason that we should help in the Ukraine is because of how it may ultimately threaten the safety and security of the United States. But other than that, it’s really about time we started focusing our efforts on the problems that are so pervasive on our own soil. If we don’t address it soon there won’t be any more humanitarian aid to give elsewhere.

I’m not missing any point. I am well aware of what is going on.
I am really tired of people on this board telling me my opinion is not worth it. And in the past decade I have spent more time than “counting on two hands.” This isn’t a pissing contest on who is more American .
There are other reasons to help Ukraine (no ‘the’ is used anymore for Ukraine). They are a major source of food. Starvation has increased because of the war. If Russia invades a NATO country, then it is a US problem because they are in NATO.
Fine, cut down on military spending and drop out of NATO. Use that money for universal health care, raising the minimum wage, etc. Start going after the corporations. A similar scenario, Brexit, isn’t working out so well.
I hope I’m wrong, but this Spring is not going to be good with regards to the war.
But thanks for your soapbox opinion, I guess.
ETA: If you want to take the stance of “take care of our own,” then maybe realise that I am one of those people and not say I am out of touch. What a hypocritical argument you have.

Weren't you one of the ones that voted for Biden because you didn't like the mean tweets? Are you regreting it now?

This kinda reminds me what happened in Chernobyl, how it was handled, and all the repercussions. It’s horrible.
I recently watched the Netflix documentary on Three mile island. I kept telling myself thank goodness things are so much more transparent nowadays and the government would never collude with a corporation and endanger the public like that. It is very scary that this happened and the government has done nothing to protect it's citizens.

Wow, who peed in your cheerios this morning? I will respond if I want to. I already stated possible solutions. Read.
Don’t treat me like a second class citizen because I don’t live there. I work indirectly with a government organization, and I am still an American citizen.

I didn’t vote for Biden because of Trump’s mean tweets . I voted for policies. I do not regret voting for Biden. I do wish there had been better candidates.

I do agree that I wish there were better options too but I think another 4 years wouldn't have been THAT bad to go through compared to what we have now.
