Cover letters for friend?

So my job is hiring and I let my friend know and told my boss her name so he can keep an eye out for her application.

When I applied, I worked hard on my resume and cover letter in English and had a close friend of mine correct the German version, so there would be no mistakes. You have to apply through a portal because it is a government job and there is a process, i.e. I can’t just give her my boss’s email address.

Since the job is kind of difficult to find the ad for and the process is so bureaucratic, I told her what exactly they look for and the process, etc. I told her when the ad went live about a month ago. The application is due on Tuesday. My bosses have been asking of she applied yet.

She asked me for a copy of my cover letter in German and I told her I can’t find it, so I sent her an old copy of a previous cover letter in English for her. She has asked me a few times for it in German. The truth is I have it, but I’m afraid of her using it word for word and the main office will compare it to mine and I’ll get in trouble.

Am I being too paranoid? I am also somewhat annoyed because I put a lot of effort into writing the cover letter.

I always find it interesting when people do this. I am with you. I would not give her your cover letter. You are not being paranoid, i would worry about the same thing. It's weird she keeps asking for it. You've done a lot for her already. She needs to do the work to apply for the job.

You are not being paranoid! It is very nice of you to be looking out for your friend, and you've done more than enough for her. Please don't give her your cover letter...you could wind up screwing yourself.

Some people have got balls. I could never imagine making this request of someone!

I agree - don't give it to her. I wouldn't have even given her my English version. If she really wants the job, she can figure it out on her own instead of copying someone in that company.

I wouldnt give it to her either. I would review hers and give her pointers if she asked but it looks like she is trying to just take the easy way out and copy yours.
