Do you tip IN ADDITION to this? having a party in a few days and the party price is a set amount, plus $35 for every additional child over the 12 included, plus tax, plus 18% service/gratuity.

Someone told me you tip in addition to this. Is this true? That sounds absolutely ridiculous if so. A tip on top of the tip? LOL

If it's classified as "gratuity", then no, I would not tip on top of that. But, maybe double check with the person you booked the party with.

We're in the process of booking my daughter's Sweet 16 for next year. All the catering halls give you a price per person, plus a 20% Admin Fee, and then tax. They all said that the 20% fee is an administrative fee, not tip, so we should tip on top of that. In your case, since it says "service/graturity", I would think that's all you have to do.

For Sweet 16's, many will tip the extra people who make the party, not just the caterers.

I would not tip on top of that. We had a 20% included gratuity at the party place that I owned and very rarely did anyone tip on top of that. The party staff made a ton in tips. I know some places do not share all of it with the employees but that is not your problem.

I don't know where you are located, but I had my daughter's sweet 16 at The meadow club and they do not charge an administration fee. They were the only place I found that did not charge that.

I used to work at a catering hall and the percentage was a "service charge" that covered overhead and salaries. Most people tipped on top of it $20.

Yes the party staff can get $20-$50 per person on top of everything else you are paying for as they are the ones who have worked before, during and after your party to make it a success Chat Icon

No sorry I meant since we had an automatic 20% included no one gave the standard $20 - $50 a person on top of the party price. The party people would typically be splitting about $150 to $200 per party from that 20% because most parties ranged from $800 to $100. But... I know places that include a gratuity and then don't actually give it to the staff but keep it for themselves. I would give it to my employees since it was clearly meant to be a tip for those that worked the party. I would also specifically tell people when they booked the party that the tip was included and there was no need to tip in addition to that.

Ahh ok. Only familiar with tipping to the people who plan beyond the catering hall.

If the gratuity was a included I do it tip extra UNLESS there is exceptional service (which there usually is not lol)

If the extra charge is labeled as a gratuity I would tip extra if I felt the service was good. The restaurant where we had my DD’s communion included an 18% gratuity. I was prepared to tip extra but the service was horrible so I did not.
