Age cutoff for gifts
Do you have an age cutoff in your family where you no longer give gifts? On my DH's side of the family, we gift to not just our nieces and nephews, but his first cousin's kids as well. He also has two first cousins that are a lot younger than him that we have always given gifts to. Now, the both of them are in college and DH thinks we should not get them a gift because they are now over 18. He texted his brothers and his brothers are still getting them gifts. I don't want to look like an idiot if we are the only ones that don't get them anything, but I am wondering when does it stop?
FWIW last year I tried to introduce a Secret Santa concept with DH's cousins so that everyone won't have to spend a fortune on gifts (for some of us money is tight), and our kids won't get a million toys each, but unfortunately no one was on board with the idea.

Re: Age cutoff for gifts
How many kids are there? For us it is just the 4 kids and then 1 nephew. 3 of them are "adults" and 1 is 16. The nephew is 10. Usually they get cash or gift cards now for the older kids. I don't ever see that stopping because they are over 18.
BUT us as parents don't exchange once we had kids.

Re: Age cutoff for gifts
My in'laws side had a huge holiday party every year. There were tons of kids on his aunts side we got for when we were dating and early marriage. Now our kids are getting older and their kids are adults and half the years don't go to family stuff anymore. We said 16. Once they can drive and get a job really no point to get gifts. This is like 2nd and 3rd cousins. For first cousins I will always get, but extended and they're older with jobs I don't think it's necessary.

Age cutoff for gifts
Once the kids got older, we just did a grab bag for all of them. We increased the price a bit and on Thanksgiving, the kids pick names and each kid gets one gift each. That is for my 1st cousins. I still and probably will always get my niece and nephew a gift.
In your situation, everyone needs to discuss what they want to do and you should all agree. If you are the only one not giving gifts it would look weird IMO.

Age cutoff for gifts
My nieces and nephews range from toddler to 10. My siblings keep reproducing so there are a lot - 11 so far. I wish we’d stop exchanging. My son is an older cousin and I’m done. I hate the stress personally of buying gifts.

At this point, we’re all exchanging the same $25 gift card to different places for the kids aged 7-10. The only difference is I have one child and my siblings have 3-4 a piece. Thank god we got rid of sibling gifts when everyone started having kids.

13 and older get no gifts. Gift Cards until their 18 and then you do secret Santa.

Yeah see I find exchanging gift cards pointless. I actually talked to my sister about this because she asks for gift cards for her kids (she has 5), and she gets gift cards for my kids. So I was like, how about we just not exchange, being that I am giving you money and you are giving me money... just one less thing to stress about. lol.

Re: Age cutoff for gifts
My family is ridiculous with this too. My aunts and uncles still buy for me and my kids and my parents still buy for all of their nieces and nephews and now great nieces and nephews. It's too much and extremely costly because there are a ton of us. When I suggested a secret santa to my family, it was like a dagger to their heart. My mom and my aunt didn't speak to me for a period of time...it was insanity. Needless to say, we are all still buying everyone gifts. (28 people of my list!) Whatever.
