If you use/used a bassinet..

We put the basinett together, I had bought a mattress pad for the basinett to go under the sheet.

When I put it on and then the sheet over that, the whole mattress kind of buckles under and shrinks. So now I just have the sheet on it.

Did you use anything under the sheet? The mattress itself is waterproof, do I need anything else?

Another Question, the matress it came with seems kind of thin, is this the norm. The lady in the store told me it was, but who knows!

Thanks!!!

I had the same problem with the mattress buckling with the mattress pad, so what i did was put a receiving blanket under the sheet just for some more warmth and in case of any accidents.

And yes, the mattresses for the bassinet are pretty thin.

Re: If you use/used a bassinet..

We didn't use a mattress pad under the bassinet sheet. It wasn't necessary, since the mattress is waterproof. All of the bassinet mattresses I've seen are thin. We used one of the cushioned "anti-roll/snuggle up devices" (with holes in it to avoid suffocation, of course) in the bassinet. It was slanted, which helped DS/DD's AR, but it can't hurt even if your child doesn't have AR, and it adds some cushion.

Hope that helps.Chat Icon

No matress pad here either...just the bassinet sized sheet.

I didn't use a mattress pad since it was waterproof anyway. The mattresses are very thin, but should be firm when placed in the bassinet.

Re: If you use/used a bassinet..

I actually bought one of the cut-to-fit mattress pads and put it under the sheet just because I wanted it to be a little softer and warmer for DD. I also bought a different mattress for the bassinet because I thought the one that came with it was too thin and flimsy. I kept the think one in there, underneath the new one that I bought. I was asking these same questions before DD was born and a couple of moms said that they felt their children didn't sleep well in the bassinetts because it wasn't comfortable enough for them. After I did what I did, DD slept in there until she was too big for it.

Re: If you use/used a bassinet..

ok i know it's wrong but my son slept in his bassinet very comfortably untl 6 months. (he wasn't sitting up yet) my secret was that i bought an extra bassinet mattress (for like only 30 bucks) and used both. it was very plush and apparantly very comfortable. they sell them at babies r us.

Re: If you use/used a bassinet..

I was just wondering about this since the bassinet I bought as such a flimsy mattress- thanks for the advice.
