Spain/Portugal Help

Is anyone here an expert on Spain and Portugal? My wife and I would like to go away this December and we were thinking Spain or Portugal would be a cool trip. Can anyone suggest cities, travel agents, websites, etc? Thanks so much. I know it's a broad request but anything will help.

I'm not an expert in any way, but I have been to both quite a few times. If you are looking for a beach holiday, December can be cool (eta: the temperatures are a lot lower than in the Caribbean) in both countries.

The towns I have been to in Spain are: Nerja, Marbella, Fuengirola and Benalmadena - all in the Costa Del Sol area, or the south coast. They are nice, but touristy, with Marbella and Nerja being the more upscale.

In Portugal I have been to Lisbon, Estoril, Cascais and Steubal, which are around the Lisbon area and to Villamoura and Albufeira in the South, Algarve region. Personally, Portugal would be my preferance.

I'm afraid I can't recommend any travel agents, because I travelled from Ireland. But, I do know that Riu hotels have resorts in both Spain and Portugal, and their hotels in Mexico are very popular with US travellers.

Re: Spain/Portugal Help

I lived in Spain for 13 years -- and travelled often enough to Portugal as well. I lived in Seville. I'd be happy to answer any questions at all...!! I love Spain and I miss it terribly...can I be your tour guide???

Re: Spain/Portugal Help

Kara I'd be more than happy to have you as our tour guide! Chat Icon Well here's the deal, if we go in December (only bc I don't want to wait till next April or next summer to go away) we only have like 6 nights to deal w/. One of those nights will be NYE. I think we kind of want to stay away from a purely beach vacation and would like to do more sightseeing. But if a town happened to be a coastal town w/ lots of museums and landmarks then all the better.
