she obviuosly forgot what happened to Halston when he sold to JCP in the 60s
edited to add- Halston was a huge high end designer in the 1960's- then he sold a line of clothing to JC penny's- it ruined him- his high end customers dropped him
now Vera Wang has expanded her business to high end china and gifts- it makes sense
but ready to wear at Kohl's- it does not make sense
now a less expensive line of wedding gowns makes sense

I certainly don't know much about fashion and how designers rate against eachother...
but don't a few designers have lines in Target?
I don't really know if you can compaire the two...but I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing. I just don't know why she picked Kohl's....

I certainly dont think its a bad thing
look at martha stewart...shes sells in kmart..and shes coming out with a line for bloomies and other high end stores.
she also sels very expensive furniture. i dont think the kmart thing hurt her at all
and i doubt the interest in vear wang wedding dresses, shoes and high end barware and chine will decrease at all

This is what I was thinking. There's a huge difference between high end wedding/special occasion/formal wear opposed to moderately priced day wear. They are not competing markets at all so I think it could be a success for both Vera Wang & Kohls.

Martha is going into Macy's- exclusively- no other stores- for at least the next 3 years

she's right about that. Isaac is more of a "personality" in the "real" fashion world. I don't think he is even designing high end anymore at all.
but another poster had a point. I think b/c her high end lines (wedding related) will be so different than a ready to wear Kohl's collection she will do fine. Her high end stuff is specialized, so she won't be alienating anyone.
also, the 80's was a different time...

but from a $$$$ point of view- I can see why she is doing it
I would rather see her do a less expensive line of wedding dresses- I think that would be better for her

it's better then her selling clothes at Kohl's IMO- personally I think she has lost some clout to Monquie Luillhier (spelling) you her less and less about Vera Wang gowns
which is why I think a lower line of wedding gowns would be better for her

I think the exact opposite - wedding gowns with a lower price point would compromise her original line. IMO there would be nothing extraordinary about wearing a Vera Wang wedding gown if one can be purchased for 3k instead of 10K.

Ralph Lauren sells purple lable $$$$$ and polo jeans $
Donna Karen and DKNY jeans
fashion shows and couture are not what makes money for fashion houses and designers- it's the perfume, sunglasses and other lower end products that make them profitable
fashion shows are to for PR and promotion
