Just got back from the RE. I finally have some answers.

She went over all the test results with me - my bloodwork, HSG, the sperm analysis, etc.

Everything with me was normal except my FSH level was slightly high, but DH's sperm morphology seems to be the real issue. His number was very low. 14% is the normal number and his was 1%.

So, the only option is IVF because DH still has plenty of normal sperm, and they'll be able to pick those out and fertilize my eggs with them. But after hearing a rundown of everything that I'm going to have to go through, it makes me kinda scared Chat Icon
I know it'll be fine, but jeez, I'm going to feel like a lab specimen Chat Icon

Sorry! I know they weren't the answers you were looking for, but at least now you and DH can form some plan of action.... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Annie, I'm so glad you got answers and that things are OK with you.
I'm sorry about DH's results of his SA.
I know IVF is invasive but Im sure it will be successful for you! Good luck and baby dust and keep us posted! When will you start?

Thanks Chat Icon
I start with birth control pills on CD3, so that would be the end of next week.
But the actual egg harvesting won't take place until around the beginning of September.
So hopefully by mid September I'll be PG! Chat Icon

Re: Just got back from the RE. I finally have some answers.

I really hope this works for you. My SIL is going through it right now for the first time. I will let you know how it goes. I think they are harvesting her eggs this week and doing the implant on Saturday.
She said the same thing about feeling like a lab rat, but if it works it's worth it, right?!
I wish you a lot of luck...
BTW, does your insurance cover this and if so...you are very lucky!

Re: Just got back from the RE. I finally have some answers.

I have a similar problem. Did they talk about trying to improve the sperm. I was thinking of trying that for a few months before doing IVF. I am a little freaked out about it too and I am worried about financial costs.

But I am curious to hear more about what they told you so I can compare.

I know it isn't good news to get, but at least there is an answer, and as far as they told me the success rate when this is the problem, is pretty darn good.

Good luck

I know that this wasn't exactly the ideal answers you were looking to hear Ann BUT at least you know what your course of action is, and I hopefully before long you WILL be PG , which is an exciting thought!

I'd love to know how things go with her so I know what to expect. And I wish her luck!
And I have to find out about the insurance. I'm crossing my fingers that all of this will be covered.....

No, she didn't talk about improving the sperm, and I'm not sure that there even IS a way, is there?
What she told me was that since I'm 35 years old, that the IVF would be the most aggressive way to get pregnant since the success rate is very good. They're able to pick the best sperm to fertilize the eggs.

If you're in no rush, you could do the IUI and hope for the best. But it might take a while to work, and it's a lot of trips back and forth to the doctor.
Let me know if you have any questions! I'll try to help, but right now my head is spinning from all the information I was given today Chat Icon

I know that head spinning feeling very well (another icon we could use here). Chat Icon

Take some time to digest everything, its funny how it clears up a little.
Good luck with the IVF!!!!

PS- My RE said he should take Proxeed or fertility friend, but like you said I have a little more time to play around with so I didnt want to go straight to IVF. DH also had a SA 5 months ago that was much better, so we are hoping it will recover.

Baby dust to you!!

I will definitely keep you updated on her status.
As of now, she only has four viable eggs, which are still scheduled to be harvested on Saturday. I will know more after the weekend and keep you posted.

Thank you! I am totally icked out by the term "egg harvesting". It sounds like some sort of alien procedure Chat Icon

I never hear anyone call it that!! It's usually just referred to as retrieval...

I just wanted to say that they do not implant the embryos...they transfer them back to the uterus.
Sigh, it would be so much easier if they could just implant them...Unfortunately, they must implant themselves.

You know, I had never called it that either until SIL said it...I just assumed that was the term the Dr. gave her.
