To test or not to test...
That is my question!
I'm so torn about whether to take an HPT prior to my beta.
What do you normally do and why?

Re: To test or not to test...
I tested all but one cycle.
My theory was that at least I would be *prepared*...
Dh asked that I didn't test one cycle...and as hard as it was, I didn't. That was the worst BFN of all...

Re: To test or not to test...
Lauren- I was wondering when your beta was...
I don't know what to tell you- I couldn't test myself until I was very late- and mine wasn't IVF....I hate finding out bad news so I always postpone things....I don't know.
Maybe imagine hearing the bad knews- either from an HPT or a phone call- then which one is worse?
I always assume the worst for me....but for you I am imagining good news and sending positive thoughts your way! I am really for you!

Re: To test or not to test...
Lauren, I have been thinking about the same thing. Whether I will test or not. I have NO advice. I think I will only because the BFN will likely be less harsh like someone said at home. Its so hard a decision.
Im praying for you

Re: To test or not to test...
I am a regular poster but can't say who I am yet. I just wanted to tell you that every month after every IUI I was so impatient that I would take tests like crazy. This month I didn't take a test, for some reason never thought I could be pregnant, went to the doc for my IUI follow up and BAM...BFP. I was so surprised. IMO I would wait. Why be disapointed more days then you really have to? Plus what if it comes back negative because it's just to soon to show up? I was tired of being upset when I didn't really have to because I didn't have full evidence that I might not be pregnant.
I have a good feeling about this for you.

Re: To test or not to test...
I should clarify that if I did test, I would test right before I went in to get the bloodwork done.
Thanks for all the opinions, keep them coming!!

Re: To test or not to test...
I voted yes
I didn't the last time - I am this time...why? I found an HPT in the back of my IVF meds stash cabinet
For the record, I am testing the morning I am scheduled for the beta too
Good Luck Lauren - I hope this is it

Re: To test or not to test...
I say yes BUT I always tested to be prepared and I do think that was helpful. HOWEVER, for my FET I held off until basically 1-2 days before and got a bFP (note the small b) I was sooo excited, only then to find out it wasnt high enough. So that ssucked too.
That being said I will probably test again. I am already thinking about when to test to make sure the trigger is out of my system.

Re: To test or not to test...
Lauren....you know my answer! I did test before I went for my beta...but only because I thought for sure I wasn't PG, and I didn't want to waste my time going for my beta to be stuck with yet another needle for blood for no reason.
Once I took the HPT, and it came out BFP...I ran to the RE and told them I was there to take my beta (even though my appointment was for the day after).

Re: To test or not to test...
I say test, at least you'll be prepared (or as prepared as you can be) and if you're doing anything you shouldn't be (smoking, eating poorly) you can stop right away before you even get the results!

Re: To test or not to test...
I voted yes to test. Thinking back to my BFN, I should have tested before rather than getting that phone call in the middle of BJs then having to go in the car and cry. It would have been so much easier to deal with it at home in private
IMO I would prefer to be prepared.
I have a really good feeling for you - my fingers are crossed
