Ovulation Q (sorry i am clueless)
so this is my first month using a OPK
i get that the 24 hours that you are surging is your best chance to get PG
but is that it?
you got that two days and that is it?
Is it a waste of time and energy to be BDing before and after
and are the odds sooo dramatically slim to none to get PG Pre or Post Surge???

BD before...spermies can live for up to 5 days. And although they say not to after, Janice got PG after her O date. So it can't hurt!
And I'm doing it every day next month, if every other day doesn't work this month!

the day before i got my surge we didn't and the first day of the surge we couldn't...I was feeling ill
am i done for the month?

OK...Heres the bottom line...
You have 1 day a month you can get PG....The day the egg drops. IF there are sperm there...well theres a good chance you will get PG.
SO.....As your body gets ready for the egg to drop the LH in your body rises and the OPK picks up on the Rise.
Sperm can live in your tubes for up to 5 days. So the 5 days BEFORE O day can really be considered good days as well as the sperm will be waiting for when you reach your peak.
The LH surges between 24-48 hours BEFORE you ovulate. SO when you get that + OPK....You BD!!! Your best chance is that day and the next.
Once you ovulate the chances are dramatically less. The further down the tubes the egg travels, the further it breaks apart if there are no sperm and thus even if you BD, its almost TOO late ( if Im explaining that right )
SO...If you BD any time before the + , say up to 3 days before, there is still a good chance for ya.
I hope that helps....I know it was simpilistic but I think it explains it well.
Also...Remember that even if you get a + on the OPK , it doesnt neccesarily mean you will ovulate. Most people get LH surges at ovulation time, even if no egg is ready to come out, is immature in quality , etc etc etc.
And make sure the test line is DARKER then the control line or at least the same darkness....somewhat close, almost close is NOT a positive and you could very well not ovulate for many more days.
ITs all about the timing.
And ps...Timing IT SUCKSSS!!!!!

Then dont..ITs not worth the stress.
OR....DO it one month. Get a feel of what time of the month that you O and just use that as a gauge ya know?
After some time, you need need to make sure your doing it at the right time, just to see what happens if its taking a while, BUT...DONT let stress take over. Once it happens, theres no turning back!!!

LOL...I said that to dh! Could you imagine all the times you were in HS thinking that your parents would kill you if you ever got preggo. Never knew it was as hard as it actually is!

I am glad that you posted your question, Redhead -- reading the responses has been helpful. I haven't used an OPK yet and was totally clueless about them. The whole OPK thing sounds stressful to me, but maybe I will try soon...

Well as we get older our fertility decreases so you really did have to worry when you were 16, 17, 18 etc. As far as teh OPK's it does seem confusing when you first start but you will get the hang of it. Like i told Sasha yesterday
Here I am! Got to work late today. Keep in mind FF can F things up sometime. The BEST indicator for me has been EWCM about 2 days before I O. Once I see that I use my OPK's. Once you get to know your body's signs you can use the fertile and forecasted fertile days as backup. Also unless your DH has sperm issues you can BD every day-I would! back at ya

Like sasha revealed, I had already ovulated. Due to timing that month, DH needed to drop off sperm analysis, so we couldn't touch each other the day that I was ovulating.
I am a firm believer in, I think you guys call it CM. In charting class, when you wake up, before you pee, give yourself a swipe, if its not dry and you have mucus, then you should probably BD. Bodies are made differently.
I thought we were out of the ballpark since it was after OV, but I think I just had a egg that took longer to travel.

I also analyzed my CM and got my BFP the first month (I know, that is not common). But, it is less stressful and if you try it for a month or two and get a sense of around what time in your cycle your CM changes, you will be just as accurate as the OPKs.

When you see eggwhite CM then you are about to ovulate or you ARE ovulating- since sperm can live for a few days, if you BD every day you have EWCM and then one or two days after you have probably covered your bases- this is only if your DH doesn't have sperm issues.

When you see it getting thicker, you will be ovulating. You will see egg white consistancy for about 3 or 4 days. I don't know *exactly* how it works, but I think that when you start to see it, you are about to ovulate. I know that for me, it was very watery for about a day or so, then got thicker and thicker then got watery again. This was over the course of almost a week. We Bd'd every other day (that was our normal "schedule").

DH & I only BD'd once, the day before my O and that was the time I got PG. (I wasn't using OPKs. I temped and checked CM.) Before that we did the every other day thing. I was absolutely convinced that this wasn't the cycle I would get PG. So you never know.

On fertilityfriend.com, it says your fertile days are:
3 days before Ovulation
2 days before Ovulation
1 day before Ovulation
Day of Ovulation
1 day after Ovulation
So, I would be BDing even before getting that positive OPK. And also BD if you see any EWCM.
