Key West - How did you get there and how much?

We are thinking about going to Key West in Janurary for a long weekend.

I want an easy and short plane ride, will this work for Key West?

What airport did you fly out of? What airport did you fly into?

Hi... we just looked into this because we are going to a wedding there in December.

The fllights to Key West were ridiculously expensive... it was costing us $200 to get from NY to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and then another $200 to go a 1/2 hour from there to Key West...it was ridiculous. We looked up every airline. So now we are flying into Ft. Lauderdale and driving both ways. I heard the drive is nice, but its going to be a pain taking so much time out when we are only there for four days.

Maybe a package deal with a hotel would be cheaper, but we couldn't do that, since we are staying at the hotel where the wedding is.

We went to Key West in Dec 04 and on recommendation flew into Ft. Lauderdale and drove to Key West...it was a looooooooonnnnnnngggggg drive. It was a nice ride anyway...

But, on the way back we flew straight from Key West home.

ETS...I think we flew into Miami...not Ft. Lauderdale...

Fort Myers has a shuttle boat that goes to Key West. You can fly Jetblue to RSW and then take the boat from RSW to Key West.

We also flew to Fort Launderdale and drove to Key West. I didn't mind the drive on the way down, but it was long and tiring on the way back. We met people from NYC who had flown in directly. I'm sure it's a lot more expensive, but I might pick that option next time.

We always fly into Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and drive down...it takes about three hours from Miami/four from Ft. Lauderdale. You can do the Ft. Myers Ferry (we did that from IL's two years ago), but the ferry ride is a couple of hours and I think it was kind of expensive. Plus, the dock is about an hour or so away from the airport. Car Rentals are so cheap now that it was better for us to do that.

We are going back in April...some friends of ours are getting married there also.

my sister went there on her honeymoon and loved it.

I went there on a cruise, so i was there only one day. but we had a great time. its like going to a caribbean island without the hassle of leaving the country!

We drove from Ft. Lauderdale, but flew back out of Key West. I don't remember why we did it that way but it was great! I lvoe Key West!

My parents house is in Deerfield Beach/Ft. Lauderdale area. DH and I leave from there and drive both ways. We love the drive. Its a couple of hours but its a nice ride. I love Key West.

flew to miami..rented a car and drove in..it is about 3 hours to get there BUT it was the most gorgeous and relaxing drive and you go by all the other keys...very very nice....

We also flew to and from Ft. Lauderdale and actually stayed in Miami a couple days, then drove to the Keys. It was a nice drive. We also stopped in the Everglades on the way back. We'd never been but it was great.

We flew from Miami and it wasn't too bad. We stayed at the Wyndham Casa Marina and it was really nice.

We have a vacation house in Ft. Lauderdale and last time we went, we drove to Key West. I forget how long it took, maybe 2-3 hours? Its a nice drive, there was only one part through Miami where we hit lots of traffic, other than that, its very scenic.

I just posted about Key West. I didn't even see this post.

DH and I are thinking of going in Feb. I have been checking all the airlines and none of them seem to go directly to Key west. We don't want to have any stops.

So, we are now thinking about flying to Miami then driving down.

But, it seems a bit long.
Any good hotel recommendations??

Flights do not go directly to Key West you have to stop in either Miami or Fort Lauderdale
Hotels- the Hyatt is there and the Galleon is where I have my timeshare you want to stay in Old Key West rather than any of the other hotels because you wont be near Duval street and thats where all the action is... FM me if you want some good websites
