Does this sound right?
I have Oxford Freedom plan and just called them to see if I need a referral to go to an RE. The rep said I do NOT.
I repeated it a couple of times and he kept saying, NOPE, no referral.
So that means that I can just make the decision to go to an RE and make an appointment without further involving the ob/gyn I've been seeing???
Sorry if I'm sounding like a dunce - this is the most interaction I've had with dr's and insurance companies in my life.

Yes as long as your insurance is a PPO not an HMO!!

Re: Does this sound right?
My Husband has Oxford Freedom, he needs referrals for everything. I actually just emailed the RE I made an appt. with to find out exactly what he will need.
I have different insurance so I don't need referrals.
I'll let you know if I find something more out...just starting this process.

Re: Does this sound right?
<I had oxford freedom and had the same exact issue was always told from receptionists that I needed a referral with oxford. Then my husband had said one day that we don't need referrals. and I called oxford and they said no, no referrals ever and they told me it says it on the ID card. So, after that, I never got a referral and if anyone gave me guff about it, I showed them the ID card that has on it no referrals required and never had a problem with payment...

Son of a gun!! It DOES say "no referrals required" on the back of my card.
Insurance is so confusing - my dermatologist calls me every year to remind me to get my referral before I come in for the skin cancer screening. Thanks!!

I'm totally confused because I am normally told to get a referral for everything.
What a PITA - as if TTC is hard enough, right?
Did you decide to go with LI-IVF??

Re: Does this sound right?
yes, I went to LI-IVF and was extremely happy and successful with them. I am going back. Also, I heard Dr. Kenigsberg just wrote a guide book that came out called The Baby Solution. Might have helped me alot before at the beginning, but you may want to check it out. With the referrals, I still to this day, when I go to any dr's am told, you need a referral and I just point my card to them and then usually after some reluctance they back down. Good luck!

Re: Does this sound right?
I have Oxford freedom and when I was looking into it I did NOT need a referral to see an RE.
Some good RE doctors with NSUH are covered under the freedom plan as well.
