Re: What do you think
Definitely tragedies more so than a celebration. I've seen fights at weddings/New Years, etc. (that could be b/c there is usually drinking involved in celebrations) but either way, when something tragic or bad happens people usually come together and are peaceful.

Re: What do you think
I agree....tragedies seem to bring people back together overall.
The only celebration I have seen bring people together is the birth of a baby. That can sometimes make people bury the hatchet.

Unfortunately tragedy.
So true...
when my grandmother passed away suddenly a few years ago, it brought together family members and friends I had not seen since I was a child...some family member of which there had been BIG faling out between amongst cousins, etc.
and of course you say "lets reconcile, we MUST keep in touch, etc" but it often never happens...

Re: What do you think
In Fh's family bad times have actually just brought out the worst in people. So I don't really know. I think people come together when they're rallying toward a common goal, or against a common enemy

Re: What do you think
I think both. Tragic events humbles people, and allows people to bury the hatchet... however, I think weddings & babies have the same effect on people. Anything life-changing brings people closer... whether its tragic or exciting.

me too.
my DH's friend, hasn;t spoken to his brother in YEARS. well, DH just told me that his friend's mother passed away (long battle with Alzheimer's.. )..... the first thing I thought was, i guess the brothers will be united again. sad that it takes a tragedy to bring people back together.

Re: What do you think
I think that tragedies bring people together, b/c they put life into perspective and make people realize how petty their feuds are.

very true....
but i think that in the most general sense...it is tragedies that bring people together.. Look at the tsunami, 9/11, Live8
It seems to me tragedy moves people more than celebrational events

they had their falling out after she became ill, so she didn't even know. she didn't even recognize her own son whenever he'd go visit.

tradgedy. My 40 year old cousin died in June and the entire family got together for dinner after the funeral. It was an unfortunate circumstance but nice that I got to see so many people I havent seen in a long time.
