For those of you really wanting a BFP....

I HIGHLY recommend fertilityfriend.com. Sign up for the free trial and begin taking your temperature every morning. It REALLY gives you a better sense of what your body is doing and FF shows you when you most likely ovulated (which was helpful for me b/c I didn't even know if I was ovulating after being on the pill for 13 years)...

anyway - I also used an OPK in conjunction with FF. I am not saying that this method will work for everyone, but I truly believe it will "work" for most. Some of you may opt not to do it b/c it will make you too crazy, but for those that really want to take the bull by the horns....and not leave anything to chance...I really recommend it.

You also enter when you bd and then at the end of your cycle, fertilityfriend approximates your ovulation date (from your temps) and takes into consideration when you bd'd and it gives you a "score" of how likely you are to get pregnant that month.

Not trying to preach my methods here, but I just wish to share my experience with everyone.

Good luck all!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I appreciate and thank you for your suggestions and may use them someday when I am ready to.

I do have one question. Did the OPK predict the same ovulation days as Fertility Friend? In other words, how did you use them (how did they work)together?

Yes. They worked together (or they predicted the same ovulation date). I got a + on the OPK on the morning of Thursday, October 5th. When I tried the OPK again on Friday night it was already negative (indicating that I had ovulated earlier that day).

FF predicted from my temperatures that I ovulated on Friday the 6th as well.(you have to have something like 5 temps above coverline in a row to indicate ovulation) so it takes a few days to figure out when you ovulated...

In the end they both predicted that I ovulated on Friday, Oct 6th.

Just to explain further-taking temps is really measuring the progesteron in your body-your progesterone slowly builds throughout your luteal phase to help support a pregnancy should you get pregnant. If not it drops right before or in the 1st day or two of AF. Progesterone is known as the "hot" hormone which is why your temp rises as progesterone rises. OPK's measure your LH surge(letenizing hormone) which also rises as you get closer to O. So these are two different things being measured but they work in concert.

Re: For those of you really wanting a BFP....

I just started using ff because I am going to be charting as a method of BC for now... and when I am ready to TTC I will really understand my cycles. I bought the OPKs also, but am not sure when to start using them.

beaviss80: I think the normal luteal phase is about 14 days for most women. I believe you need blood tests to figure out exactly how long yours is.

you have to chart a few months using FF and then it will calculate your luteal phase for you (that is the time between your period and the day you ovulate).

I too am a big fan of FF and have found it extremely helpful!

I hate the OPKS I have been using and find them very difficult to interpret, what OPK's did you use in conjunction with FF?

Actually, the luteal phase is the time from ovulation to period. It varies between women, but each individual woman's luteal phase remains constant month to month. So, while you may have irregular ovulation times, your luteal phase should always remain constant. Usually it takes about 2 cycles to determine your luteal phase.

I second Johnsae's rave for FF. I bought the VIP membership and have truly enjoyed using all the features. It's remarkable how much I've learned!!

Did you use a regular body thermometer or did you get a basal thermometer?

I really agree with this! If I didn't chart my temps, I would never have known that I ovulated on DAY 25!!!! Most people ovulate around 14, and I never knew how late I really was having just come off the pill a few months earlier.

It worked for me... but I know its not for everyone. Plus I should add that DH did NOT like that I was taking my temperature every morning!

Re: For those of you really wanting a BFP....

I also recommend charting. I FINALLY ovulated on 9/16 after waiting to ovulate for 4 months!! If I wasn't taking my temps I would never have known that I had ovulated and that I had conceived. Good luck everyone!!
