Stock vs. Broth
I know I can get broth out of those bouillian cubes, or in a can. Where the heck can I get stock? It isn't in King Kullens soup aisle. Is it in a can? Or do they have cubes too? I've always heard of it, but never had to actually find it before, now I am
ETA I really have no idea how to spell bouillian so that is the best you're gonna get

Re: Stock vs. Broth
I don't think you can buy stock in the stores, I think it's something you have to make.
AskFN: Chicken stock tends to be made more from bony parts, whereas chicken broth is made more out of meat. Chicken stock tends to have a fuller mouth feel and richer flavor, due to the gelatin released by long-simmering bones.

Yes, you have to make chicken stock, and to be honest, it is kind of a pain and it takes a long time and using it, IMO, tastes the same as using broth.

Re: Stock vs. Broth
Doesn't stock make recipes thicker? So if I don't use it, they'll be runny? Argh. Why can't everyone be born Betty Freaking Crocker!

You could also use broth and thicken with cornstarch.

Re: Stock vs. Broth
you can buy stock at certain specialty food stores, and certain supermarkets will carry it.
I bought fish stock (which I was NOT about to make) at a market in Dumbo, not too far from my house.
it's richer than broth, but you can just use broth in a pinch.

Re: Stock vs. Broth
You can buy stock. It comes in paper containers and is usually above the cans of broth in the supermarket. I get mine at Fairway because they sell smaller containers, since I don't use that much at one time.

I agree. We use cornstarch to thicken up our sauces.

You can buy stock in the supermarket. It's a brand called Kitchen Basics and it's in the aisle with gravies, sauces, and stuffing... at least in Pathmark it is.
