Holiday shopping!

I don't know what to get anyone this year for Christmas! I don't want to get them silly things they don't need though. I really would like to get started but I keep asking for ideas and no one is giving me any :( Any suggestions on where to get ideas??? I really prefer not to do gift certificates either.

Re: Holiday shopping!

Who do you usually buy for and what are there ages and likes? My mom I am getting a designer wallet, my stepdaughter a coach bag (12yo), and my nieces and nephews different things because they are different ages.

my suggestion...gets some gift cards. You dont have to buy wrapping paper and have a big cluttered mess all over the floor. Also, everyone can buy what they want. For children, I would go to a toy store and buy age appropriate gifts.

Re: Holiday shopping!

I've found a few sites helpful so far this year:

Lillian Vernon
signals.com
And I plan to use some old wedding sites like White Aisle or the Trousseau (They have some nice ideas for women)

I also like donations - every year for Mother's Day we get my mom and aunt a donation card for Susan Komen

Re: Holiday shopping!

i try and buy people things i know they would never buy themselves or something sentimental something that reminds my brother of things we did when we were a kid or any John mellencamp for my sister is a huge fan. they like the small sentimental things more then a more pricey gift that i give along with it usually

the sister/sister in laws may like a GC for a manicure/pedicure

nephew - I would do either something YOU KNOW he wants-or just do a gc for a store he likes-maybe a game store-if he has an xbox or psp or something like that...

mom/stepmom/mother in law-do they like spas? maybe a massage or facial, perfume?
A hotel gift certificate-I have been giving my parents Marriot Gift Cards for various events and they love it...they accumulate them and will use them when they go away or do a city trip or something like that

grandma-maybe a nightgown/pajamas with comfy slippers, a pretty scarf and glove set

also, I gave a donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering in memory of my grandmother and the info will go to my mother-she will like the thought it that

Re: Holiday shopping!

I put a post on the Pregnancy board the other day. I am lost too this year and I have a lot of people to buy for. I did a lot of movie gift cards, dinner gift cards and visa gift cards this year.

Re: Holiday shopping!

For the guys, I tend to do sports themed gifts with the teams they like. SMithaven Mall just opened a new sports store down by Victoria's Secret that had so much to choose from.

For women, depending on their style, I get them candles, clothing, or I cook homemade cookies/chocolates for some.

Re: Holiday shopping!

i just got my nephew, 11 years old, something called "burp gun and pistol" set from spilsbury.com it was like 30 bucks and its a clear "gun" and "pistol" that shoots ping-pong type balls. seems like a younger boy would get a kick out of that.
victoria's secret always has some nice wintery pajamas that the wrap up nice around the holidays - maybe that'd be good for your aunt, mother in law, stepmom, mom, even girl cousin!. maybe some cuter pj's for your sister.
gift cards are always great... i know i love getting them Chat Icon maybe get certain people a little something and then a gift card as well, so they have something to open rather than just a gift certificate. that's what i do.
i also always get everyone a nice xmas ornament... usually from hall mark though this year we bought all disney ones while we were on our honeymoon... the ornaments is something they'll keep forever.
HTH good luck and happy shopping!
