Are most of your guests are in Florida? In the Disney area?

my friends had a small wedding on the disney grounds, not in the park, and it was affordable.
I think they spent 16k.

oh, well having a small wedding on Disney grounds, vs. having a "Disney Wedding" is completely different! I think with mary being such a huge fan of Disney, she'd want the whole kit and kaboodle!!! I know I would! I'd want the horse & carriage, disney pavillion ceremony, everything!! it just wouldn't be the same, ya know? why have hamburger, when you can have filet mignon?? Chat Icon

Wanted to add in case you don't knowL
If you have the officially Disney wedding you can't book until one year out and you have to guarantee 20% of your guests staying in a Disney resort.

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

I guess you can have a little more intimate Disney Wedding....

An intimate wedding at WDW for two starts at about $3,500 including a 4-night honeymoon at Disney's Port Orleans, theme-park tickets, a daylight ceremony at one of several Disney resort locations, a wedding cake, bouquet for the bride, a marriage certificate signed by Mickey himself, and a host of other trimmings. Custom weddings for parties of more than 8 start at $7,500. The average Disney wedding costs $20,000 and has 100 guests (Prince Charming not included). A la carte add-ons range from $250 for a white-dove fly-over and $2,200 to arrive in Cinderella's glass coach. It would cost $42,000 or more to rent the Magic Kingdom for a reception (not including ceremony, food, and other doodads). If you can imagine it, Disney can probably do it, as long as your wallet matches that imagination.

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

One of my friends did and LOVED IT!
She had about 60 guests, and while I didnt go, i heard it was great. Although I dont know if she did the "offical" Disney wedding. I do knwo she did it to save money, and her original budget was small to begin with...Like $20K...So I can say she spent no more then probably $ 10K for herself. She paid for all the BM's and GM's to stay too for 2 nights . Most people stayed 3 nights.

Another girl at work did the Disney Cruise ship wedding. That was great from the pics...She had CD favors with disney songs and songs like Cruisin and Love boat, cute invites etc...Her budget was around 10K too.

GOOD LUCK whatever you decide.
If you want a lot of guests to come, I would tryoff season so they can get good rates. I would definatly go to a Disney wedding.

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

A Disney Wedding can be like hundreds of thousands if you want to rent out the magc kingdom for it and let your guests go on the rides...but if it's not a lot of people, it's really not any more expensive than a LI Wedding. It's about $75 p/p for afternoon, $100 p/p for a dinner, $1200+ for a ceremony, $1300 for a DJ, $500 for a limo. It's really comparable to hvaing the wedding up here, and I would just invite the closest people which is what I wanted to do from Day 1, until everyone else started putting their 2 cents in. A destination wedding is a great excuse for not inviting like every single 3rd cousin twice removed. Right now it just seems so ideal and would cost a lot less than the NY Wedding we were planning because we'd be inviting a lot fewer people!

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

One of my friends was married at Disney about 10 years ago. As a guest, it was a blast. They had their reception at the Grand Floridian (they spent lots of money on their wedding, more than what they would have spent in NY).

Destination weddings are tricky. Some people get annoyed that they have to travel to attend your wedding. My friend got grief from some of her family members. Well, I guess there's always issues when you are planning a wedding, right?

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

I feel like if I do the Disney thing I'll care a lot less about people's crap because I'll be doing what *I* want. A lot of my family said they would come from the moment we got engaged they assumed we'd be having the wedding there. Destination weddings are all the rage, right?

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

We looked into a disney wedding too. I honestly thought at the time that it would be too much money. I ended up spending more up here anyway! LOL
I say go for it. I was just there in July and I saw a few weddings going on, they all looked lovely.

At first I just thought ti would be too much money, plus we had a lot of family to invite and FH was really pushing for the big wedding, apprently for his mom, wwhose only other child eloped...ugh..pisses me off so bad. Anyway, now we're inviting a lot fewer people anyway, and I honestly don't give a rat's patoot if people don't come. I'd rather a few peopel come to the wedding of my dreams than everyone come to a wedding I planned trying to make everyone happy. I don't know. It's just a thought!

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

What i don't understand is that you can have a wedding here on LI for just the same about (75-100pp)
WHy add the extra expense to you and your guests if you don't have to? Aside from the inconvenience.
I would understand if you had a majority of your family in Orlando....but if you don't...well i think doing a "Disney wedding" is a bit much. ESPECIALLY if you are already trying to save money!

Plus i think you should be happy and do what your want wether your wedding was here, there or on the moon.

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

A lot of people would love it, half of Fh's family is actually in Florida (between 30 min and 2.5 hours from orlando) so it would actually be more conventient for them, and if they don't come, I don't care. Plenty of people have destination weddings. if it were such a HUGE inconvenience it wouldn't be so popular. And if people feel it's an inconvenience, don't come. I feel like if I'm there and doing what I really want, I won't care what they think. Up here it's just too much pressure. If everyone had thier way I'd be inviting 500 people. As it is, it wold be 200 people. For a destination wedding, we'd only invite 60 or so, so it would be a HUGE price difference!

tha tis true...if you are going to chop your list...it would be much better...

But imo i don't think destination weddings are that popular, a new trend maybe...but the majority are still have the non-destination weddings...I know very few people that actually do them.

and if you just want to do what you want to do....then go for it

Re: So I'm considering a Disney Wedding!

After just returning from a Mexico destintation wedding I can tell you that believe it or not it is MUCH more stressful to plan.
You will have to make 1 or 2 trips before your wedding and doing things on phone was very stressful for the bride and groom.
You would have to take care of all the little details from 1,000 miles away which can get difficult and watching the bride having to carry sooooooooooooooo much stuff on the plane was hard.
ON THE FLIP SIDE.. It was the most amazing wedding i have ever seen, and I love the idea that only the ppl truly closest to you will be there to share your special day.

jennifer, I think though proper etiquite is that you still invite anyone you would of normally invited ( but obviously you know most of them wont come)
This way nobody is insulted they werent invited.
I think if its something u want to do and your immediate family doesnt have a problem with it then you should go for it.
Think about sending out save the dates as soon as you decide whether it be 6 months or a year in advance.
