Help! Mold on the Bathroom Ceiling...
We just remodeled our entire bathroom and now there are little brown mold spots popping up on the ceiling. We never had this before. How do you get rid of it???

Re: Help! Mold on the Bathroom Ceiling...
When we first moved into our co-op we had this problem. I think there are cleaners that you can buy to remove mold but for the most part it's just water with a little bleach. Of course...I have to warn you to be careful and try to research the mold online to make sure it's description matches something where they tell you that you can safely remove it.
Also, once you remove it, you'll need to take steps to avoid it's return. In all likeliness, it has been brought on by moisture. So when you shower you need to vent the room - with with a vent or opening a window. This should make a huge difference.

Not sure how to get rid of it, but we used mold resistant paint on the ceilings of our bathroom and installed a exhaust/light fixture on the ceiling, we hope that will prevent it.

Re: Help! Mold on the Bathroom Ceiling...
There are two things you can do to alleviate the problem.
1) Install a ventilator fan if you don't already have one and, 2) paint your bathroom ceiling with Kilz paint for mold and mildew and then paint it again with your regular paint.

Did the contractor make sure to use the mold resistant sheet rock?

Re: Help! Mold on the Bathroom Ceiling...
we used to get that in our apt. We mixed a spray bottle w/ water & bleach and just sprayed that on it every once in a while to kill the mold. In our house we used the moisture resistant sheet rock, and had Benjamin Moore add the anti-mildew stuff to prevent mold growth. We also have a high powered vent.

Re: Help! Mold on the Bathroom Ceiling...
This has a lot to do with the type of paint used. Moisture is definately the root cause. Certain paints do better in bathroms such as semi-glosses or satin enamels. You may want to find out what type paint was used.

We had this problem. Cleaning with bleach helps, but it will come back, so we painted with the KILZ paitn mentioned above. It works really well.
