Heartburn?

Anyone have this - My MS has been replaced with heartburn.

What can I do for it? Has anyone else had this - and what worked for them?

Unfortunately Tums isn't working - it helps for say 10 mins but then stops - I am already taking calcium so I don't want to overdo it on the tums.

Anything else?

I get it just sitting at workChat Icon

Re: Heartburn?

I get heartburn when I go to bed. Lots of water (of course making me pee all night long) and Tums do it for me....maybe Rolaids if the Tums aren't helping?

My MS has been replaced with heartburn.

That's exactly what happened to me!

My Dr said to take Mylanta or start of on a small doge of Zantac if Mylanta doesn't work.

I took Mylanta last night. we shall see!

It is also important to stay away from fried and spicy food when dealing with this issue, as well as eat small postions of food often rather than 3 large meals.

Re: Heartburn?

I have the worst heartburn and reflux!! My Dr said Tums, liquid Mylanta and Zantac are fine to take.

Zantac is my best friend these days!

Re: Heartburn?

I find that chewing on Peppermint gum or sucking on a Peppermint Altoid also help. Tums didn't work for me either!

I feel your pain, I have it almost all day long!

Re: Heartburn?

I have had it ever since my MS has gone away. Nothing I do "cures" it, but there are definitely things that make it worse. Sauce, apples, water, cookies...I eat bland all the time and have to add lemon juice to my water. Seltzer helps too.

DH said the other day, he can't believe there will be a time when I can leave the house without having TUMS on me. I pop a lot of them.

Re: Heartburn?

Try milk or ice cream. Also one tums before a meal works better, but really there was no relief for me. It's gotten better though.

Could be certain foods triggering it that normally don't cause you heartburn. I was a pizza fanatic in my last pregnancy...I kept heartburn. This time, it hasn't crept up yet [although the burping is scaring the neighborsChat Icon ] and I'm still eating the spicy foods.

And you cannot over do it on the calcium...you can take too much and waste what you consume at once...but as a woman, especially a pregnant woman, you can never have enough calcium!Chat Icon

Re: Heartburn?

I took lots of Tums, Milanta and Pepcid. You have to becareful of how many Tums you take though. My friend ended up with kidney stones and the Dr. blamed it on the tons of Tums she had taken.
